Quick Thoughts
This is a great selection of deals as all of them (other than Lowe’s) are offering a 20% discount. Even 15% off Lowe’s gift cards is a decent deal as we don’t often see discounts that high for Lowe’s nowadays.
I checked each of my accounts for Giant, Martin’s and Stop & Shop and saw the first 10 coupons listed above, but didn’t see one for Netflix. However, DoC has that listed and has a screenshot of it, so it might be that one or more of these are only available regionally.
Note that these digital coupons don’t give you a discount when only buying gift cards – you have to purchase enough groceries to offset the credits. If you were to take advantage of each of these deals, you’d therefore need to spend $135 on groceries.
Thinking about doing Airbnb and uber… For 125$ for both gc and bring extra 25$ of grocery totaling 150$ per transaction. Is the 20% off before or after taxes? Plus has anyone run into problem doing multiple transaction with different giant number since it’s one per customer.
I’m not sure if it’s before or after taxes – either way, I can’t imagine it’ll make much of a difference to your total bill. Although it’s presumably against their terms & conditions, I imagine it’s possible to do this deal more than once with 2+ Giant accounts.
To reiterate what you said at the very end of the post, this is NOT a discount on the GCs. It’s a dollar off amount on groceries. Unless you can spend the exact right amount on the groceries and don’t go over, you will get less % off. You also have to assume the grocer has competitive prices to value the dollar off at full value (otherwise take a haircut). The post is fairly misleading, in my opinion.
I’m confused as to how it’s at all misleading given that the list of digital coupons specifically says ‘…save $x on your grocery purchase’ for each one and, like you said, I drew attention to that in the post.
Most people don’t eat out for every single meal of their lives and so everyone has some element of grocery store expenditure. Given they’d be spending that money anyway, why not get discounts of 15-20% off a variety of gift cards at the same time?
I also don’t agree that unless you spend the exact right amount on groceries that you get less of a percentage off. If I buy a $50 Macy’s gift card and spend $20 on groceries, I’m still getting the same 20% off the Macy’s gift card as if I only bought $10 worth of groceries. If I didn’t buy the Macy’s gift card, I’d have still been buying $20 worth of groceries, so the percentage clearly comes off the value of the gift card even though you have to spend the corresponding amount on groceries.
