There is a fantastic new offer out on the Amex Gold card. This one is only available via referral link and only some cardholders are able to generate a link to this offer, but it’s a doozy: 90,000 Membership Rewards points after $4,000 in purchases in the first 6 months plus 20% back as a statement credit at restaurants worldwide for the first 12 months (up to $250 back). This is the best offer I’ve ever seen on this card.

Quick Thoughts
Amex just loves making it rain more points lately. They have consistently outdone themselves what I think are objectively the best offers of the pandemic. I want to say that this is as good as it could possibly get on the Gold card, but Amex is certainly training me not to underestimate just how good it can get.
The “normal” offer on this card only includes 60K points. Restaurant reservation website Resy has long had the best public offer on this card at 75,000 points and the 20% back on restaurants, but this new offer adds yet another 15,000 points. And as this is only available via referral, maybe you’ll be lucky enough to find it via referral link from someone in your household, stacking even more points on top.
Speaking of referrals in your household, don’t forget that a new referral offer debuted today that gives the person referring you an extra 5 points per dollar at restaurants for 3 months (on up to $25K in restaurant purchases). That offer stacks on top of referral points (though you can’t stack +5 multiple times on the same card, just once per card). See our earlier post for more details.
What could make this even more interesting is if you’re able to open the Gold card and then generate a referral link from your new Gold card to refer someone else to get a new card, giving yourself +5 at restaurants on your shiny new Gold card. Imagine the stack there: the Gold card ordinarily earns 4 points per dollar at restaurants. You’ll also get 20% back at restaurants for the first year (up to $250 back on $1250). Stack another 5 points per dollar if you refer someone else from that new Gold card and you’d be getting 9 points per dollar at restaurants and 20% back. If you value Membership Rewards points at just 1 cent per point, that’s like a 29% return on restaurant spend for as long as that offer lasts. That’s amazing.
Keep in mind that lifetime language applies (if you have or have had the card before, you likely aren’t eligible for the bonus). I’ve personally never had the Gold card. While it doesn’t exactly fit into the plans I had in mind, it might be hard for me to resist this offer.
Unfortunately, none of the cards in my household are able to generate the 90K + 20% back offer. However, a reader provided their link which I’ve added to our Best Offers page.
We want reader links!
If you have a link to this 90K + 20% back offer and you’d like to share it, head over to our Frequent Miler Insiders Facebook group. Find the dedicated thread for Amex Gold card referrals (use the search function to search for the Amex Gold Card thread). Read the instructions and leave your link as a reply in the proper place. We will be rotating reader referral links in to our Best Offers page, so please leave your link there (and only links to the 90K + 20% back offer, please — we wouldn’t refer a friend to an inferior offer).
Unfortunately, links left in the comments here will get caught in our spam filter and will not post. If you want to share your link, head over to Frequent Miler Insiders.
H/T: Reader Chris
Do you know if I had applied and had Gold but never got bonus (didn’t meet min spending within 3 months) is still eligible?
[…] Referral Offer: Some Amex members have a referral offer for 90k bonus on the Amex Gold card. See this post on Frequent Miler for more […]
I decided to try my luck and see if I got out of Amex pop up jail that I have been in for a couple years…AND I WAS. Got approved from a link on the FB page and posted a comment that I used the link. My referral code after my approval was only for 60k points though 🙁
Wow, thanks to this post, I checked my referrals and I’m generating the 90k + 20% back offer. Time to refer P2 imminently.
Any chance you can send me the link? Ready to sign up for the Gold card today.
I can send the link to you if you need it.
The link has been on our Best Offers page since we published this post – we’ve been rotating through reader referrals from our Frequent Miler Insiders thread.
I was approved for your FB site and clicked a referral link but it’s only showing 60k points. Should I keep trying referral codes till I see a 90k one?
Just a thought – try it again in incognito mode in Chrome.
I have the offer and can refer you. Let me know
My American Express Platinum didn’t have the Gold referral of 90k points (only 60k here), however, I did notice if you sign up for the Platinum card under my referral you will get 150,000 points plus 10x points at restaurants for the first six months. I know the current Resy offer is 125k plus 10x points, but don’t think I have seen many referrals for 150k plus 10x. Just an FYI as seems like a good deal. I signed up for the Platinum last year under the Resy 125k plus 15x restaurants and Shop Small.
Yup, that’s the best offer on that card. That is the offer we’ve had on our Best Offers page since January 24th (when it replaced the current Resy offer on our Best Offers page). We’ve been rotating reader links each day since then from a running thread in our Frequent Miler Insiders group.

I think my offer is better than both of those. The two on your landing page are either 150,000 points (with no restaurant bonus) or 125,000 plus 10x at restaurants. Mine is for 150,000 and 10x at restaurants.
Here is the exact language from my referral link:
Earn 150,000 Membership Rewards® Points after you use your new Card to make $6,000 in purchases within your first 6 months of Card Membership. Plus, for a limited time if you apply for this Card by 06/08, you can earn 10X points at restaurants worldwide on up to $25,000 in eligible purchases on the Card during the first 6 months of Card Membership. Terms Apply.†
AmEx must be feeling the backlash, flogging their coupon books.
Approved on 3/9 for Gold for 60K + 30K from P2 referral. Great offer but is there any hope for getting matched to this 90K offer if I call? I’ll certainly try regardless but any expectations based on others experience?
No haven’t seen any DPs of amex matching
Is there any risk using a referral link from someone you don’t know? Will Amex ever ask you about your relationship?
No. We have long shared both our links and reader links on the blog. Never heard of anyone having an issue or inquiry related to that.
Can Platinum refer for Gold?
Yes, you can refer from almost any Amex card to almost any other Amex card (with a couple of exceptions — co-branded cards like the Hilton cards can only refer to Hilton cards; you can’t refer someone to a Schwab or Morgan Stanley card…..but someone can use your Platinum card link and open any of the Membership Rewards or cash back cards other than the Schwab or Morgan Stanley cards and they can use your Platinum card link to open a Delta or Marriott or Hilton card and you’ll get the Platinum card bonus if you provided the link from your Platinum card.
That said, your Platinum card may not (probably doesn’t) have a link to this 90K offer.
Any card can refer to any card with a few exceptions like the Schwab and Morgan Stanley platinums. They can’t be referred to but you can refer from them.
