- Offer not valid for lodging stays that are paid for before the promotion start date or after the promotion end date.
Quick Thoughts
This Amex Offer could be useful even if you’re booking an award stay in Mexico. That’s because it’s valid on not only your room rate, but on room charges too. If you were to charge $500+ to your room for food, drinks, spa treatments, etc., you could therefore still get $100 back as a statement credit.
Something worth noting is that AMR Collection properties are excluded. There are now a lot of all-inclusive hotels in Mexico bookable via Hyatt’s website for brands such as Dreams, Breathless, Sunscape, etc., but spending $500+ at those particular brands won’t trigger the $100 statement credit.
Do Thompson properties count? The T&C says, “Offer valid only at Hyatt Hotels & Resorts located in Mexico….Excludes all other Hyatt properties, including AMR Collection.”
Yes, Thompson properties should count.

I have 2 nights already booked at Zilaras Cancun in early December using points. Are there any creative ways to cancel my award stay, book a paid stay and qualify for the Amex offer without changing my check-in check-out dates (e.g., pre-paid rate or contacting the property to run my card prior to the stay)?
I got a stay with check out date on Nov 30th. Normally the charge won’t show up till couple of days later on credit card. Do you think it’s qualified for this offer?
It should qualify. However, to play safe you could ask the front desk to charge your card a couple of days early to ensure it posts with a transaction date by November 30.
Can you get this on more than one card?
It might appear on more than one card, but you’ll only be able to add it to one card. If you have a partner who also has the offer on one of their cards, you could split the cost of a $1,000+ stay on one of your cards and one of theirs to get $200 in statement credits.
Would any of the Ziva’s qualify. I would think they do, just curious.
Yes, Hyatt Zivas and Zilaras will presumably qualify.
The $100 savings will be offset by the purchase of body armor required in Mexico.
Well, at least the name checks out.
