We have added a public link to our Best Credit Card Offers page for a new offer on the IHG Rewards credit card that now includes a $50 statement credit along with an 80K point signup bonus and an additional 5K points for adding an AU and making a purchase. That said, you may be able to get an even better offer. Read on for details.
The Offer
- 80,000 bonus points after spending $1,000 on purchases within the first 3 months
- $50 statement credit after first purchase
- 5,000 bonus points after adding an authorized user and making a purchase in the first 3 months
A better deal by phone
Doctor of Credit has reported on a way to potentially do better: there is an offer for 100,000 points after $2,000 spend in the first 3 months (which likely includes the same 5K AU bonus) that may be available via phone application following the directions in his post. That offer includes no statement credit and requires an additional $1,000 in spend for the extra 20,000 points. I think that makes it slightly better. Twenty thousand IHG points are worth a bit over $100 as we can often buy points for just a bit over half a cent a point. Since the 100K offer has no statement credit, the net value is about $50 more than the 80K offer and it requires an additional $1,000 in spend. That’s roughly 5% return on that additional $1,000 spend. That’s enough for me to consider the 100K offer to be superior — though some will likely disagree on the relative value. And for those who disagree, we have the 80K + 5K + $50 statement credit link on our Best Offers page.

[…] IHG 85K offer now includes $50 statement credit (but you might do better): A slightly enhanced offer, but in the post we reference how to get an even better offer. […]
Nick, I tweeted this at the Frequent Miler twitter 3 hours before the reddit post. Is there a better way to get in contact with you guys on these quick deals? Should I also be tagging you in my tweets? If so, what is your handle?
Hi Justin — my apologies. I always H/T where I first noticed something and I guess I noticed the reddit thread but had skipped over your tweet. Truth be told, I saw the reddit thread and initially ignored it because I thought the 100K offer was better (somebody else tweeted us with the reddit thread well after I had already read it and decided that I didn’t think it was relevant). Then, I decided it was worth a post to say why I thought the 100K offer was better (and I realized that the 85K + $50 statement credit offer was better than the offer we had listed that was lacking the statement credit, so I definitely wanted to get that updated). By the time all that happened, if I had seen your tweet, I didn’t realize it came in before the reddit thread. Again, my apologies — it wasn’t an intentional slight.
At any rate, I have updated the post to credit your tweet. I’m @NickatFM on Twitter, but I get notifications on the Frequent Miler tweets also, so tweeting FM is fine as well. Thanks for the comment so I could add you to it.
No worries! I appreciate you adding me. Thanks for all the work you do on the site.
My experience with IHG: I spent the $1000 and earned the bonus… However the points didn’t go to IHG rewards card, why? So I called and asked, was told to call IHG rewards club… IHG rewards club told me to call Chase… Chase told me to call IHG rewards…. IHG rewards club told me to call Chase… and so on… and so on… So somewhere in the unaccessible rewards ozone are my 70,000 points…
I canceled my card on Sept 6. After 27 months of having it. I forget how long I should wait to reapply for it?? Days, week or a month?
Do you know if this card will be approved with the bonus if I already have the card, and have already gotten a bonus? Is it part of the 5/24 rule?
Chase won’t approve you for a card that you currently hold. You would need to cancel your current card to get the bonus again (and it must have been 24 months since the last time you got a bonus on this card to get the bonus again).
Approvals or this card are not believed to be subject to 5/24. If you’re ever wondering if a card is subject to 5/24, we keep that information in the blurb for all Chase cards on our Best Offers Page.
