IHG has launched a flash promo which is awarding 3X points on stays in more than 80 countries worldwide. That means that it’s possible to earn up to 50X points on the stay when also accounting for bonus points earned from status and by paying with an IHG credit card.
The downside is that stays in the US aren’t eligible for this promotion, but if you’re traveling internationally by May 22, IHG will be worth a look.

Quick Thoughts
Earning triple points on stays is a very generous promotion, especially considering IHG isn’t doing that annoying thing where you only start earning triple points from your second stay.
Other than its Staybridge Suites and Candlewood Suites brands that award 5 points per dollar spent, all other IHG brands award 10 points per dollar spent on the base room rate. That means a 3X rate earns you 30X at most brands. On top of that, you can earn up to 10X points depending on your IHG One Rewards elite status level, as well as up to 10X points by paying for your stay with an IHG credit card. That makes for total earnings of up to 50X. Considering our Reasonable Redemption Value of IHG points is 0.61 cents per point, you could reasonably expect to get up to an effective 30.5% return, although it could be even higher than that if you cherry pick and maximize your award redemptions.
There are a few important features to be aware of with this promo. One is that you have a very limited amount of time to make your reservation: they have to be made by April 11 after you’ve registered for the promotion. It’s also only valid for stays through May 22 and only for stays in the countries listed in the terms above. That includes pretty much all of Europe, along with many other countries worldwide, but sadly not the US too.
