Avianca LifeMiles is in the midst of a transfer bonus that runs from June 3rd to July 5, 2019. However, today they have announced an increase in the transfer bonus that is valid for two days only: Get a 30% bonus when you transfer from Citi ThankYou points to Avianca LifeMiles between Thursday June 27th (12:00 AM GMT-6) and Friday June 28th (12:59 PM GMT-6). Note that this is a 5% increase, not a stacking promo. If you transfer within this window, you’ll get 30% total bonus miles versus 25% after Friday at 12:59pm GMT-6.
The Deal
- LlifeMiles is offering a 30% transfer bonus from Citi ThankYou points for 2 days only (5% added to the current 25% bonus)
- Direct link to this promotion
Key Details
- Valid Thursday June 27th (12:00 AM GMT-6) and Friday June 28th (12:59 PM GMT-6)
- Total bonus is 30% (25% + additional 5% two days only)
- In practice, the 25% bonus is posting instantly, but the extra 5% is not. Terms indicate it could take up to 45 days for the additional 5% bonus to post.
Quick Thoughts
I had to go to our current point transfer bonuses page to realize that the current 25% bonus is offered by LifeMiles, not Citi. This additional 5% is also offered by LifeMiles, so if you transfer before the cutoff on Friday afternoon you will get a total bonus of 30% (i.e. 1,000 Citi ThankYou points = 1,300 LifeMiles).
Note that you will not see this bonus reflected in your Citi ThankYou account as the bonus is added by LifeMiles. Citi will show the normal 1,000:1,000 transfer bonus ratio, but the 30% bonus should post instantly to your LifeMiles account. Update: The 25% bonus is posting instantly, but the extra 5% is not instant. Terms indicate it could take up to 45 days for the bonus to post. Let’s hope it’s not really that long.
Avianca LifeMiles is a great program for Star Alliance awards and we’ve written quite a bit about them over the past several months. They also appeared several times in this morning’s post about Amex Membership Rewards Sweet Spots, though of course this bonus only applies to transfers from Citi ThankYou points. Sorry, Stephen Pepper. #40Kfaraway just got 5% easier for me. Greg would tell you that he can buy LifeMiles for cheap. I’ll tell him that I can now buy a hot dog with the part of the challenge budget he’ll have to use on buying miles.
Of course, it only makes sense to transfer if you have a valuable use in mind — but if you do, this is a nice bonus.
H/T: One Mile at a Time
[…] Update 6/27/19: Bonus has been increased to 30% for June 27th and 28th. Hat tip to FM […]
Just did the transfer from Citi. The 25% showed up immediately. However, the 5% did not show up. Now I’m 3000 miles short of the LAX-TPE flight I want to book. But I’m not in a rush.
Same thing just happened to me. Only got the 25%
Ugh. I just went back through the terms and I now see:
“The transferred LifeMiles and the LifeMiles bonus will be accrued no later than 45 days after the LifeMiles Partner reports the request of miles transfer.”
I’ve updated the post. Sorry — past promos like this have posted instantly and I knew the 25% bonus had been, so I expected the full 30% would as well. Let’s hope it doesn’t actually take 45 days to post…
My bonus posted on the next day.
Think this is the exit point for P2’s TYP stash for me. Move them to my account and then into LifeMiles.
Hi Nick, I have a question. if a flight shows on United website but not on Lifemiles website is there a way to book it with Lifemiles?
Thank you
