Yesterday, Barclaycard increased the signup bonus on the JetBlue Plus card to an all-time-high of 40,000 TrueBlue points after $1,000 spend in the first 90 days. We’ve added that offer to out Best Offers page.
The Offer
- Earn 40,000 bonus TrueBlue points after making $1,000 in purchases in the first 90 days
Key Card Details
- Earn 6X on JetBlue purchases
- Earn 2X at restaurants and grocery stores
- Earn 1X everywhere else
- $99 annual fee is not waived
- Free checked bag
- 5,000 points on your anniversary
- 10% points rebate on award bookings
- $100 statement credit when you purchase a vacation package from JetBlue
- 50% savings on in-flight purchases
What are the points worth?
According to our Reasonable Redemption Values, JetBlue points are worth about 1.46 cents per point based on the median value (meaning you can get a bit more or a bit less — awards are revenue-based, but vary a bit). That makes the signup bonus worth somewhere around $584 towards JetBlue flights. If you’re a JetBlue flyer, that’s great.
Is it worth a look?
This card is absolutely worth a look if you are a JetBlue Flyer. Greg has previously written about why these cards are worthwhile for those who frequent fly with JetBlue (See: Barclaycard JetBlue offers are live and worth a look – though note that the signup bonus mentioned in that post was the previous bonus of 30K). The short story is that this card is particularly strong if you value Mosaic status and plan to reach it through spend. You could conceivably spend your way to status at the grocery store while earning a net of almost 3% back in value towards JetBlue (see that post for more on how).
Where can the miles take you?
JetBlue’s route map is mostly domestic, with a huge presence in the Caribbean and an increasing presence in Latin America. There have been rumors for some time that JetBlue is plotting an expansion to Europe. If those rumors are true and JetBlue brings their Mint class product to Europe, it could present a very interesting new way to get to Europe in comfort. Even without that expansion, JetBlue covers many popular vacation destinations throughout the US/Caribbean/Latin America, and I find their economy class to be the most comfortable in the US. Due to our companion pass, we don’t fly JetBlue much anymore, but my wife and I participated in All-You-Can-Jet back in 2010 and gained a big appreciation for Jet Blue.
Bottom line
If you’re mostly interested in travel with JetBlue, this offer is worth your time and attention. Traveling just a few times on Jet Blue, you should earn back your annual fee in your free checked bag, and the annual point bonus on your anniversary will ensure that even one or two flights a year with a checked bag bring you to an even money proposition on the annual fee. If you are able to spend to Mosaic status and value its benefits. the increased offer makes this a good time to go after it. On the other hand, the route map is somewhat limited; if your travel interests extend to Asia, Europe, etc, this card won’t get you there…yet. Again, find the link to this offer and more on our Best Offers page.
