Quick Thoughts
The digital coupons Kroger releases every other week or so for 4x fuel points on Visa and Mastercard gift cards are only valid on fixed-value cards (i.e. $25, $50 and $100). There’s no exclusion for variable load gift cards with this particular digital coupon though, so it should take off $3 when buying a Visa or Mastercard gift card of up to $500.
That’s certainly been the case with similar digital coupons in the last few months, so this is a great way to reduce the activation fee on variable load cards to only $2.95, helping reduce the cost of racking up some additional grocery store spend on a card that earns a bonus in that category.
Update: Hunter T has confirmed in the comments below that this does indeed work on variable load Visa and Mastercard gift cards.
question – when the Publix coupon is $10 off if $50 of groceries and you have several of the cards coupons loaded – can you apply coupons to cards in same purchase IF your total grocery purchase totals more than $50 per card? OR do you have to divide your grocery purchases to equal about 1 card per $50 worth of groceries?
Based on other people’s data points, you only have to buy $50 of groceries the once if you also buy the gift cards in the same transaction. You should therefore be able to buy $50 of groceries and $50 Visa and Mastercard gift cards, as well as Kohl’s and Happy gift cards if you wanted.
You can use it on variable cards. I did it this morning.
Thanks for confirming – I’ll update the post.
