There is a newly public offer out for the Chase Marriott Rewards Premier Visa good for up to 120,000 Marriott Rewards points in the first year. Rather than a typical 3-month window to earn the signup bonus, this one offers the bonus as reward for spend for the first year of cardmembership: 10x on up to $12,000 in purchases in the first year. Greg previously wrote about this offer in comparison to other available offers — see The Marriott 120K Offer [targeted]. Is it any good?. The 80K after $3K spend offer is also still alive. We have added links to both offers on our Best Offers page.

  • 1 additional night of elite credit for every $3K spend

Quick Thoughts

Greg analyzed the value of this offer versus the other current offers both for this Marriott card and the SPG cards in depth, so see his post for more on the relative value of this offer versus others. Interestingly, this 120K offer could also be a roundabout way to earn a decent haul of SPG points for those who have had SPG cards in the past and are not eligible for new SPG signup bonuses.

Keep in mind that the personal version of the Marriott Rewards Premier is subject to the Chase 5/24 rule; you will not be approved if you have opened 5 or more new accounts in the past 24 months (most business cards don’t count towards that number — see how to count 5/24 status from your smartphone and Chase business cards don’t add towards your 5/24 count for more info). Also keep in mind that you are not eligible for the bonus if you have received a new signup bonus on the Marriott Rewards Premier Visa in the past 24 months.

For those readers still interested in the 80K offer, which only requires $3,000 in purchases to earn, we have kept a link to that on our Best Offers page while also adding a link to this offer.

Nick,

I was targeted for this offer, but lost the mailer. Do you know how I can still claim the offer?

Thanks,
Doug

I currently have this Chase Marriott card and have for a few years now. How can I access this or any future bonus if I already have it? Do I need to cancel and re-apply? is there an option to get the bonus otherwise? New at this points game but like playing it, just need to insider info. 🙂

Hi,
I recently applied for a Chase business card and received a rejection letter stating: “too many credit cards opened in the last two years associated with you.” I called Chase and I was told that the personal cards do count towards business card as well.
Thank You,
Nancy

NB

Nick, do you have a spreadsheet to keep track of cards? I thought I had seen a link to one some time ago. Thank you!

What if you previously had this Marrioitt Visa card before but canceled it? Am I still eligible for the 80k bonus or probably not?

I’m under 5/24 so I might as well go for the 120,000 point offer. The Marriott flight and hotel packages are a good value if you can get at least 270,000 Marriott points. The ability to transfer Starpoints to Marriott makes it pretty easy to get over the 270,000 point threshold.

Bad deal overall…
10 points per $1 for this offer vs. 26 points per $1 for the old offer (80,000 pts / $3,000).

Lantean

Agreed.
I guess this is only a good deal if you spend $12k a year at Marriott.

Nathaniel Nate

I received this offer but I wonder why Chase has these higher-than-normal bonuses with that chase 5/24 rule. I don’t mess with Chase anymore, not for credit cards, mortgages nor bank accounts.

Geoff

Nathaniel,

Pardon my arrogance, but you’re crazy for passing up great offers just because you like 5/24. Just maintain a spreadsheet…is that too much to ask?

M

It’s a choice between offers by Chase and the rest of the banking universe. Chase doesn’t want to compete fairly, so let them rot in hell. There will be lots of juicy offers from other banks in those 24 months. Don’t be stupid to pass them all up just to stay chaste for Chase.
