Reserve online at marriott.com. See terms for exclusions.
Offer Terms
Enrollment limited. Must first add offer to Card and then use same Card to redeem. Only U.S.-issued American Express® Cards are eligible. Limit 1 enrolled Card per Card Member across all American Express offer channels. Your enrollment of an eligible American Express Card for this offer extends only to that Card. Offer valid only at participating Marriott Bonvoy® properties in the U.S. and U.S. territories, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. Reservations must be made online at Marriott.com, via the Marriott Bonvoy® App or by calling 1-888-236-2427. Excludes Marriott Vacation Club®, Design Hotels™, Protea Hotels®, Marriott Executive Apartments®, Homes & Villas by Marriott International and Vistana Signature Experiences™. Excludes gift card purchases. Not valid for online retail purchases, hotel amenities or purchases of Marriott Bonvoy® points. Offer only valid on room rate and room charges. Offer not valid for lodging stays that are paid for before the promotion start date or after the promotion end date. Qualifying purchase means a purchase at a participating Marriott Bonvoy® property made during the offer period with your enrolled American Express Card and which is in an amount totaling at least $200 USD as posted to your account, following conversion from a foreign currency, if applicable, in accordance with your Card Member Agreement. Offer is non-transferable. Limit of 1 statement credit per Card Member. The enrolled Card account must not be cancelled or past due to receive statement credit. Any benefit earned from this offer is in addition to the rewards (i.e. Membership Rewards or cash back) earned as part of your existing Card benefits, but your ability to earn spend-based rewards for the purchase will be based on the amount after any statement credit or other discount is applied. Statement credit will appear on your billing statement within 90 days after 7/31/2021, provided that American Express receives information from the merchant about your qualifying purchase. Statement credit may be reversed if qualifying purchase is cancelled. If American Express does not receive information that identifies your transaction as qualifying for the offer, you will not receive the statement credit. For example, your transaction will not qualify if it is not made directly with the merchant. In addition, in most cases, you may not receive the statement credit if your transaction is made with an electronic wallet or through a third party or if the merchant uses a mobile or wireless card reader to process it. By adding an offer to a Card, you agree that American Express may send you communications about the offer. POID: K1WG:0001
Quick Thoughts
While the terms exclude gift cards, I’ve had great luck with similar Amex Offers by buying Marriott gift cards at a hotel’s front desk (make sure not to buy them elsewhere, such as at the hotel gift shop). Most Marriott hotels do not sell gift cards, so I recommend calling to ask before making a trip.
The promo ends on 7.31.21. What if I stay the nights of 7.30.21 and 7.31.21? My checkout date is 8.1.2021, which means that my statement will be dated 8.1.2021. Will this qualify?
Not if they charge you on 8/1. I’d call the hotel and ask them to take an advance deposit. You could also try having someone charge your card at check-in, but I’d rather be sure it was done ahead of time.
Got & used at front desk on my Green Card. Rest went on my Ritz Carlton card for their 10x Marriott promo (targeted).
[…] Spend $200 at Marriott, get $40 back when you use your Amex card. […]
DP: Got this on Amex Plat & Everyday. Not on Marriott cards.
Got this on my platinum card. Did anybody get it on a Marriott card?
I got the offer on my ancient AMEX Blue.
Does any one know if the transaction has to be one transaction of >$200 or can it be over a couple of transactions totaling more than $200? I have a couple of one-night stays coming up and both stays will total under $200.
I didn’t have any issues with this for the last offer of $50 off but others did. My charges were across the same brand and hotel actually. Those that had issues were doing two different brands. Hopefully Amex fixed it as it should be fine, at least it had worked for me across brands before.
It’s supposed to be one transaction over $200. Not multiple. If an AmEx offer can be reached over multiple transactions, it will explicitly say “in one or more transactions”.
Does anybody know if you can split your payments across multiple cards at the hotel? Meaning if my hotel bill is $1000, I put $200 on 5 different cards that have this Amex offer linked to it
I have split payment at Marriotts before, probably only across two cards. Usually it is just a matter of finding a competent desk agent. Not sure if they would do 5 payment methods … but probably?
I did this across 3 cards on the last Marriott AMEX offer back in Mar/April. I’ve also done it quite a few times previously. Make sure you have time to check-out at the front desk. At check out, just ask the front desk agent to split the charge among X numbers of cards.
I’ve only split the payment with 2 different Amex cards ; never need to split more than 2 cards.
See if they allow you to pay for each night using different Amex card per night instead of splitting the payment at the end of your stay.
Ive done with two credit cards! When they are not busy, I asked them if I can make a $200 payment from my room on a card! They had no issue with that! I dont see it being a problem to doing that multiple times! I think it will work! Good luck and save travels
So just to confirm, it looks like this DOES work at Westin hotels, right? My eyes get tired looking at T & C’s all the time haha
Any property that participates in the Bonvoy program. Unless a specific property is one of the weird ones that doesn’t, then yes, any of Marriott’s brands will trigger this credit. Not just Marriott hotels proper.
