When earning 50 and 75 elite night credits with Marriott Bonvoy each year, you get to pick a Choice benefit. Marriott recently announced a change to what were formerly called suite night awards, but at some point they also made a change to one of the other benefits.
In the past one of the options was the ability to save 40% on a mattress or bed from one of Marriott’s hotel brands. That Choice benefit has been updated and is now giving a $1,000 discount instead.
In most cases this change will be more beneficial. You’d need to spend $2,500+ in order to save $1,000+ with a 40% discount. The $1,000 discount is even better value on smaller mattresses due to their lower price point.
For example, a twin mattress from the Fairfield store normally costs $1,199, so your net cost after the $1,000 discount will be $199. A queen mattress would have a net cost of $899 and a king or Cal king would have a net cost of $1,149.
The cost of mattresses vary depending on which brand’s bed you’re buying. Fairfield seems to be the cheapest, but the Marriott bed isn’t too much more expensive. A twin, queen and king would have a net cost of $395, $995 and $1,435 respectively. A Ritz-Carlton bed on the other hand would (understandably) be much more expensive, costing a net $1,390, $2,440 and $2,860 for a twin, queen or king respectively. Shipping isn’t cheap though at $300+ as that instantly cuts the value of the $1,000 discount unless you’d be buying a mattress or bed from Marriott regardless.
I came across this while taking a look at mattresses as Marriott is offering 20% off mattresses for all their brands, with a higher discount of 25% for Westin Heavenly beds. That makes the mattresses even cheaper than the prices listed above, but the terms of the $1,000 discount state that it can’t be redeemed in conjunction with any other offer. Assuming that’s enforced, it means you can’t get both a 20% or 25% discount and the $1,000 off, but if you were planning on redeeming your Choice benefit for the $1,000 discount anyway, it could be worth a try buying while this sale is on in case the two sets of savings do stack.
The $1,000 mattress/bed discount can be chosen at the 50 elite night level, the 75 level or both. However, you can only redeem one discount per order, so if you hit Titanium status at the 75 night level you sadly can’t pick this benefit at both 50 and 75 nights in order to get $2,000 off a single order.
data point (fwiw), ordered thru Westin:
1. have to call b/c no place to enter code on website(as per email instruction) .
2 no stacking (YMMV) and 25% discount is not quite as good as $1000 off for a king, not a huge difference, but still cheaper to use bene and if the rest of Marriott is 20% than $1000 bene is much better.
Also 1K comes off total price mattress/box & frame and 20-25% may only come off mattress/box, as frame is different company and no discount, not sure how those number work, but worth knowing.
Positive change but these mattresses are extremely overpriced to begin with.
