Marriott has opened registration for a new promotion which is a fairly good offer (by Marriott’s low standards). That is, if you can actually register for it.
The Deal
- Earn 1,000 bonus points per night and doubled elite night credits on paid stays at Marriott properties.
- Direct link to registration.
Key Terms
- Registration of your Marriott Bonvoy account is required.
- Marriott Bonvoy members who register for this promotion by April 20, 2022, will earn 1,000 bonus Points per eligible paid night, plus one bonus Elite Night Credit per eligible paid night, during the 85-night promotion earning period.
- The promotion earning period is for eligible paid nights completed between February 8, 2022, and May 4, 2022, at participating Marriott Bonvoy properties.
- Only stays made after registration will qualify toward the promotion.
- Award redemption nights including Cash + Points, free night award certificates or a Points redemption are not eligible for the promotion.
- Rates available through most third-party online retailers and select travel agency rates do not qualify for this promotion.
- Stays at Homes & Villas by Marriott International, Marriott Executive Apartments, and Marriott Vacation Club owner-occupied weeks are not eligible for bonus Points or bonus Elite Night Credits for this promotion.
- Only one room per property is counted toward a member’s nights for the promotion.
- The 1,000 bonus Points per eligible paid night and one bonus Elite Night Credit per eligible paid night will be awarded to the member’s account within 7 business days after checkout and will post with the stay.
- Elite Night Credits will count only toward the status year in which they are posted.
- A member who elects to earn Miles is not eligible for this promotion.
Quick Thoughts
Marriott promotions have been lackluster for many years now. While this latest promotion isn’t incredibly rewarding, earning 1,000 bonus points per night as well as an additional elite night credit for each night stayed is better than most of their other recent promos.
Note that this promotion is only valid on paid stays which is a shame because Hyatt’s latest promo is valid on both paid and award stays. The setup of this promotion also suggests that Marriott won’t be as generous this year by awarding half the elite nights needed to earn the same status that you had last year which they’d done the last couple of years due to COVID. That’s completely understandable given how much travel has rebounded since 2020, but it’ll be a shame for anyone who’s relied on those elite nights for retaining/earning higher level status.
However, you’ll only earn these bonus points and bonus elite nights if you can register for the promotion in the first place. I tried registering both my account and my wife’s for this promotion and in both cases it gave an error message stating the following:
We’re sorry, but there was an error in directing you to this promotion.
The reason for this error could be:
- You’re trying to access a miles promotion and are a points-earner, or vice versa
- You are not eligible for this promotion
- This promotion has expired
This promo isn’t meant to be targeted, so it seems that Marriott hasn’t set up registration properly. That perhaps shouldn’t be too surprising as this regularly happens with Marriott promotions, so hopefully this registration issue gets fixed in the coming days.
Thanks Stephen. I got the same error as you, apparently because I had elected to earn miles. When I switched my earning preferences to points, I registered successfully.
Just finished a 3 day award stay with 50k certs. Promo appeared to have applied.
“Only one room is counted per property…”. Does that simply mean you can not get elite night credits for 2 rooms during the same stay OR you can’t mattress run same hotel twice during the promotion?
I think it’s referring to not getting elite night credits for two rooms during the same stay.
Does this mean you must stay within the given dates or does it mean trip paid for within the given dates.
Such, I am planning a trip in august but registration ends April. Do I just need to book and pay for by April or would my trip in august not count due to not staying yet?
You have to stay within those dates, so your stay in August won’t be eligible for this promotion. Hopefully they run a different promotion this summer that you’ll qualify for.
There is nothing on their website that indicates where to register. It only states “register now”. I look for where to register and nothing indicates I’m registered or even how to register. But in looking at the app, (thanks to others here who posted) I see that indeed when I am on the promotions tab the app says I am registered. The the web site and the app are not in sync with each other. My reservations both appear on the web site and app which it should.
It does appear to be targeted. I can get to the landing page if I use an Incognito window, but it throws up an error when I open using my regular logged in browser session.
No clue why you assume Marriott will not alter the qualifications nights needed (or deposit nights) like last year. They had the same double nights promo last year for 71 nights and also deposited qualifying nights. They have been very evasive at not actually ever saying how elite status will be earned I’m 2022
Worked on my wife’s account just fine. I tried on my account several times and could not get it to work.
“Only stays made after registration will qualify toward the promotion.” I am little confused–does this mean only reservations made after registration? Or would an existing reservation where the nights occur after registration count?
An existing reservation where the nights occur after registration will count.
I wonder if this will have any impact on Hyatt’s decision for a double elite night promo and/or lower qualifying nights. Anyone want to speculate?
I doubt that any promo that Marriott runs will have an impact on what Hyatt decides to do. It wouldn’t surprise me if Hyatt decided to wait until later in the year to decide whether to offer bonus elite nights.
Thanks, Stephen. I agree that Hyatt will ultimately base an decision (and likely later in the year) on its own business results. But, if Hilton and/or Marriott decide to make their own status easier to earn/requalify for, I have to believe that Hyatt will strongly consider doing the same. I’m mostly kicking myself for not taking advantage of the shortcuts to Globalist in 2021 (hoping we see another opportunity this year)!
They must have fixed it, I was just able to register, no problem.
Same here, through the app
At least the $50 off $250 (cumulative) spend AMEX Offer takes a bite out of some cash outlay.
Suggestion, maybe put targeted in the title?
I don’t think it’s targeted – I think it’s just Marriott’s IT not being very good right now.
Nice, I hope you’re right! I do see now where you said you don’t think it’s targeted. Double elite credits would be so good now. Or how about the same promo as last year bc of covid? Hehe. Kicking myself for not getting Titanium tho I was so close.
Was able to register using the app. Kind of lame that award/certificate stays are excluded but my expectations were low to begin with since it’s Marriott.
Datapoint: I had no problem registering both my wife and i for this promotion
