Meijer has a nice Visa gift card deal to start the week as they’re offering a $10 instant discount when buying a $150+ card.
The Deal
- Buy $150+ Visa gift card and get $10 off at Meijer.
- Direct link to digital coupons (search for ‘Visa’)
Key Terms
- Expires March 27, 2021.
- Limit 1 per mPerks account.
Quick Thoughts
Meijer carries variable load Visa gift cards, so buying one of those will make you a $4.05 instant profit after taking into account the $5.95 activation fee.
You can make the deal even better by paying with a card that earns more at grocery stores. If you’ve already met the minimum spend requirement on a 100k bonus/10x grocery/gas Amex Platinum offer, that’ll be a tempting option to earn almost 5,000 Membership Rewards points. The Discover It card is also offering 5% cashback at grocery stores until the end of the month if you haven’t yet maxed out your $1,500 quarterly allowance at 5%.
$150 – $10(instant discount)= $140
$140 genrates 1400 amex membership point at 10x grocery category. But the article mentions 5000. What am I missing?
Meijer usually has $500 Visa gift cards available.
Like David said, Meijer sells variable load Visa gift cards. You could therefore buy a $500 card which comes with a $5.95 purchase fee. The $10 discount reduces the cost to $495.95, so at 10x that’s 4,960 Membership Rewards.
Can I buy this gift card online?
Sadly not – Meijer only sells gift cards in-store unlike Kroger and Giant Eagle.
hmm.. thanks for the reply.
Thank you for the prompt response. No doubt frequentmiler is the best.
Wouldn’t the Chase Visa Marriott Boundless 5x at grocery also be a good idea for those that don’t have the Amex Plat?
That wouldn’t be a terrible option if that’s the only card you have that earns more at grocery stores.
Is there a resource that lists all the supermarket groups and what names they operate under, by state? I’m temporarily outside my normal area of residence. No Meijer stores show up on a search, but they may operate here under a different brand name.
Meijer only operates under Meijer, so it means there won’t be any near you unfortunately. I put together a list of grocery store chains over on GC Galore: https://gcgalore.com/heres-a-list-of-each-grocery-stores-chains/
Thanks, just what I was looking for (except for the part where you come to my house, drive me to the supermarket, walk me through the transaction, and then bring me home, stopping for ice cream on the way).
Hahaha!
Didn’t work for me despite “clipping” coupon before buying today. Never happened before. Weird.
Same! Just tried and it didn’t work either
coupon currently not working, not taking 10 off. Tried 2 differemt accounts and 2 different VGCs.
Please call Meijer/mperks so they will fix. Need more callers!
877-363-4537 option 1 for mperks
Because Meijer sucks. I was going to do this today, too.
Just went and of course, there were none left to even try.
Called and got “Well just go to the service desk and they will fix it”… umm.. how about you fix it in the system so I don’t have to go the the service desk?
Agent agreed it should work like it always has in the past.
I was trying with a $500 card… maybe they didn’t code that SKU / UPC, what values are people trying?
Meijer has this fixed now, it is working as it has in the past.
Does chase count Meijer as a grocery store?
Has for me in the past. YMMV.
Amex and Citi do, so I would imagine Chase does as well, but I don’t have definitive data.
