We had recently reported that upon launch of the new Bank of America Premium Rewards card, the Merrill+ card would cease to be available. However, reader tinytavosa commented that he applied this morning and was approved after a recon call (he had frozen his Experian credit report, which necessitated a phone call to the recon department).
He further reported that on recon, he had to verify personal information from his credit report and was then approved relatively easily. We don’t expect this card to last much longer — we expect its existence to be measured in hours rather than days. Keep in mind that there have been some reports of people being initially approved only to have the card soon after closed by BOA as “approved in error”. Others have successfully opened the card and earned the bonus. YMMV.
Bottom line
The Merrill+ phone application was still working this morning. If you’re interested in this card, make your move before it’s too late. See our post Last call for Merrill+ $1,000 in airfare for more information on this valuable offer.
Applied yesterday afternoon (4 pm Pacific) and went pending. Was approved just now!

DP: Called to apply last night around 9pm EST, got in review. Called recon this afternoon, and approved
Which number for Recon?
No longer taking apps as of this am.
Phoned in yesterday and got a pending status. Called ReCon line this AM and was approved.
I applied on the phone today around 3pm CT and got a pending. I’ve heard that happens lately and to just wait a day or two. If I wait and they stop offering the product, I’m SOL, right? Can the front line reviewing folks approve a card applied for before the product was discontinued, but meeting approval after discontinuation?
One approved via phone on Saturday 9/16
Got 1 approved for my wife today.
