Iberia and British Airways share the same “miles” program called Avios. Avios can be freely transferred between Iberia and British Airways, and until now they’ve shared the same award chart. Now, though, Iberia has come out with a massive (and very bad) change to their partner award chart. British Airways awards are currently still pricing the same as before, but many are expecting British Airways to follow suit with Iberia. Please see this View from the Wing post for details.
I recently described British Airways partner redemptions as offering incredible value on short distance flight (see “Big Wins“). If you have trips in mind in which you were planning to spend Avios for travel on British Airways partners, it would be a good idea to book those trips right away just in case British Airways does follow Iberia’s lead.
