Quick analysis
These changes look good on paper, but whether they move the needle on keeping the card through the $51 increase in the annual fee will certainly vary.
The United TravelBank credit might sound like a better deal than the previous benefits since it is worth up to $125 toward United travel and requires fewer United flight purchases, whereas the old benefit only offered $100 and required more flight purchases. However, the old benefit was a statement credit, which provides $100 in real money that you can use any way you wish, whereas the TravelBank credit is United-specific credit that can’t be used for award taxes or travel on codeshare flights and which expires. It’ll certainly be useful for those who regularly buy United airfare, but it isn’t more of an incentive to those who were stretching to meet the previous purchase threshold.
The hotel credit will be fine if you can use it, though I wouldn’t expect to get elite benefits or credit or earn hotel points when booking through United. Furthermore, you won’t have access to discounts like corporate codes or AAA, so you may be paying an inflated rate to use those credits. The rideshare credits are particularly annoying in that they require re-enrollment each year.
All that said, if you focus on using the card regularly for the right kinds of purchases to trigger the credits, you can certainly get more than $150 in value out of the benefits. I can’t imagine spending $25K for Economy Plus seat upgrades, but some will likely appreciate the small boost toward elite status and increased elite earnings if they wanted to have this card anyway, particularly for the annual mileage bonus when holding both a United business and consumer card.

should i keep this card just for the ride share and instacart? I do not think so
“Cardholders still receive two United Club one-time passes per year, but those passes now require the primary cardholder or authorized user to be traveling”
Do I (primary cardholder) need to bring one time pass with United Business card to enter the United Club? Or can I bring one time pass with my ID?
Who knows? I’m gonna bring my biz card with me whenever I have a pass to use, just in case it’s asked for
I’m trying to opt in on the rideshare credit. I couldn’t find anywhere in the “chase mobile app” that i could do this. I am eagerly wondering if maybe uber cash purchases will trigger this?
I guess I will be stuck calling the number on the back of the card.
My previous keeper combo was Business + Gateway for $99/yr to get 5000 bonus miles, 2x Lounge passes, Bags/Boarding & Expanded awards.
UPDATED keeper combo is still Business + Gateway for $150/yr to get ALL the same things (bit restrictive Lounge passes tho) PLUS the coupons – which I am certain I’ll use more than $50 worth of Uber/Instacart. Net win, and hopefully we get *DATAPOINTS* on if these are considered “NEW” cards for welcome offer eligibility.
Same boat. But I might go with the Quest. I normally have a cash and award booking annually so can fully utilize the $200 travel bank + 10k award discount. Breaks even at that point. All the other benefits are bonuses.
Also includes 3 month Instacredit+ triak then annual membership with 25% discount
$120 Annual instacar credit
$10 credit per month in the Instacart App (Quest card discount is 50% after months and includes $10 and $5 monthly credit (why its broken up – I’m unsure.
Checked the $50 Hotel credit P2 is the Philippines (Its powered by Hotel’s dot Com) and she was going to stay with friends later this week before her flight home- but asked me to book a room the day before her flight instead.
I used a 35K FNC for the Sheraton MNL at Terminal 3 (didn’t realize Sheraton had 5☆ properties) for when she arrived mid morning..
They upgraded here to the top Club floor (no club access) but did allow her ro check-in early (I chatted in the app while she was in the air).
Her brother’s flight arrived 90 minutes ahead of hers from the East coast. So they shared a room they had an early AM flight to Northern Luzon Laoag airport.
I checked the (HIE) Holiday Innn Express that is about 2 minutes walk from the Sheraton as well .as the Hilton (They are all in the Resorts World complex and mall). Points and cash prices last night before the refresh.
The HIE thru United Hotels was similar In price to booking direct within a few dollars- same with the other properties I checked.
I didn’t do a deep dive on prices – ended up booking a local hotel also 3☆ (HIE is a 3☆) that her Sister and BIL stayed at when the arrived from the US its close to Terminal 1 (EVA/China Airlines bith flies in/out of Terminal 1).
So she is taking a Bus back to Manila and its terminal is near the hotel as well- she is about 3 hrs from CRk and LAO airports She is staying at her Eldest Brothers house -.they all flew in from US for her moms 80th bday and a family reunion with extend family coming from various parts of the Philippines.
I digreas – I will say that the HIE did say that breakfast buffet was extra (which is unusual as I have always thought HIE included free brekkie.
The UA Quest card refresh is intresting with $150 statement credit for RenownedHotels – it like Cap1 VenX Premier Collection with the $100 amenity credit and free brekkie for two – only FHR still has the Guaranteed 4PM late chexkout – its Anniversary year credit. Its earns 5 UA miles per $1 – cpuld be intresting if you also earn Hotel points and elite nights.
Haven’t done a deep dive yet but it looks like the many of the same properties offerings as FHR – Haven’t clmpared prices yet. The UA Quest now has an automatic $200 TravelBank credit and has up to $100 TB credit on Hertz/Avis rentals.
Follow up – Booked a room for my wife (I added her as an additional traveler in my Profile and at Check-out).
Did impromptu checking of a local branded hotel.
$51.02 United Hotels (Hotel dot com back-end) including taxes
$53.08 Cap1 VenX portal including taxes
$66.77 Direct from website include taxes Book now – pay later
$60.52 Direct from website include taxes Pay now
$43.36 Direct from website with a special 35%off Promo – unfamiliar with brand
IHG Holiday inn Express Resorts world
$99.96 IHG App signed in Platinum member including taxes
16,000 points + 10% Service fee (???)
$102.34 Cap1 VenX portal including taxes
$106.42 United Hotels portal including taxes
I tried checking Hotels dot com but I’m a Hotel blue and it show 10% on bookings (I did have 10 stays before the switch to OneKey and when you could get 15-20% buying GC ).
But know we have Elite Status (Diamond/Plat Bonvoy/Plat IHG/ VIP Radission) 11 FNC across various cards as well FHR/VenX/Renowned Hotels credits that include Free breakfast and $100~$150 in amenity credits. Plus Delta Stays $200 anniversary credit.
So Hotels dot com has become less appealing and less useful without cheap boutique properties with 11th night free and deeply discounted GC. Hotels dot Com also had much better CSR preC19 when I had a few small issues.
I am curious about earning points and elite nights with new RenownedHotels credit on my Quest card. The $300 VenX annual credit has been a much better deal with Premier Collection bookings with $100 amenity credit and free breakfast for two. I have earned points/nights on Kimpton stays ( Cap 1 Reservation also includes IHG reservation number you can manually add).
How much are you getting paid for referrals? I’ve gotten 5 emails today from you! This is insane and makes me want to unsubscribe.
Hi John, please don’t be angry at the FM team. Chase and United Airlines decided to update all 5 credit cards on the same day. I appreciate having each card in their own post since it would be difficult to cover all the changes in a single post.
I just got this card last month at the 100K sign up offer with 99$ annual fee. Do I get the expanded benefits (specifically ride share, hotel and instacart +) ?
Yes. Per T&C effective 3/23/2025 AF will apply at renewal that post after 8/1/2025.
The Instacart is worth an extra $10 if you use it this month – I saw on DansDeal that the Biz card also gets $10 Doordash quarterly cresit but didn’t see it in fine print.
The ride share you have to opt -in on the app.or website first.
I’m going to SM about the elevated 125K UA miles also got the card end of last month.
I’ve gotten my five emails on this today WTF
Each email is about a different United card
It’s this stupid rule that doesn’t allow them to put the card name in the subject so we don’t know if it’s a new article or just a repeat.
