Office Depot is offering a $10 instant discount when spending $300 or more in Mastercard gift cards. This deal wasn’t advertised in their weekly ad, but it’s due to run all week.
The Deal
- Buy $300+ in Mastercard gift cards and get a $10 instant discount.
Key Terms
- Expires December 15, 2018.
- Limit 1 per household/business.
Quick Thoughts
Purchase fees for $200 cards are $6.95, so this isn’t a profitable deal based solely on the instant discount. However, if you have an Ink Plus or Ink Cash card, you’ll earn 5x / 5% on the purchase, making this deal more worthwhile. If you bought two $200 Mastercard gift cards, the net activation fee cost would be $3.90, but you’d earn 2,070 Ultimate Rewards or $20.70 cashback in return.
This deal is due to last until Saturday December 15, but Office Depot has been known to pull these deals early. If you’re interested in taking advantage of the deal, it’d therefore be best to go to a store sooner rather than later, especially because the $200 denominations could sell out quickly too.
Be aware that readers have reported fraud issues in the past regarding Mastercard gift cards, so drain these quickly.
We’ve added this deal to our list of current Visa and Mastercard gift card deals.
Hi all,
Just wondering how do you liquidate them?
Thanks for the info!
STAY AWAY from MasterCard GC’s issued by U.S. Bank (I believe these are). I ran into fraud the only time I ever bought one of these (at a supermarket in CA about a year ago). $100 drained, weeks of phone calls with U.S. Bank., no action until I filed CFPB complaint. Never again. I’ve probably bought 100s of Visa GCs and never had a problem.
Took a close look at the picture, yep it’s U.S. Bank. BEWARE!
Yup, these are notorious. But if you can register/liquidate within a day, I haven’t had a problem with them.
Last go around, I bought a ton of them and liquidated them over a few months without a single issue. I guess it really is YMMV.
I’ve bought lots of these too, and held them for up to a couple months. Out of several hundred, I’ve only had one go bad due to fraud (and ironically, it was a card I’d only held for about a week.) US Bank eventually replaced it after several calls and several months of waiting.
I’ve noticed that all the Office Depot/Office Maxs by us only sells $100 and below mastercard gift cards. I guess they got wise to the game.
That’s a shame – the one I was in earlier had plenty of $200 cards.
