Peacock TV announced the other day that it’ll be increasing subscription fees for existing users next month. While the increase isn’t a huge amount on a monthly basis, it might mean that you’ll now be coming out of pocket for the service if you’ve been using the Amex Platinum card’s Digital Entertainment Credit.
As a quick reminder, the consumer (not business) version of the Amex Platinum card comes with a $20 Digital Entertainment Credit each month which can be used for the following subscription services:
- Disney+
- Hulu
- Peacock TV
- ESPN+
- The New York Times
- The Wall Street Journal
Up until recently, Peacock TV cost $5.99 per month for their Premium subscription and $11.99 for a Premium Plus subscription. Those prices had already been increased for new subscribers to $7.99 and $13.99 per month respectively, with existing subscribers soon seeing a price increase too. For current subscribers, that higher monthly fee will come into effect for your next payment on or after August 17, 2024.
That’s only a $2 per month increase, so it’s not the end of the world. However, if you’d carefully arranged which subscription services you paid for on which Platinum card so that you maxed out the $20 credit each month, that $2 per month increase would mean you’d be paying out of pocket. While some people might happily keep a Peacock subscription around if it’s free (ignoring the Platinum card’s annual fee), having to spend $24 per year for the service might not be as appealing.
For me personally, I’d be happy paying that extra fee seeing as Peacock has the streaming rights to the English Premier League. However, I do need to check how we’re paying for our various subscriptions with the Digital Entertainment Credit as it might still be possible to rearrange them so that we don’t have to pay for anything out of pocket.
For Verizon customers there is a promo to get 1 year of peacock and Netflix for 80 dollars total. I just signed up for it. I don’t think it will stack with Amex credits since it’s being billed through Verizon but still good deal

I actually found that we have been watching Paramount plus the most – Hulu is hit or miss on show anymore – it has changed so much over the past 19 years (I was Beta tester in 2005).
We have Peacock – but I went cancel recently as we dropped a Plat and they offered a discount – figured I would keep. It till.promo.ended after Olympics – now they have Yellowstone and spins on three different platforms.
Thst said throughly.enjoyed recent series called “For those about to Die” Roman Emperors family drama set at the time of the building and opening of the Roman Coiloseium
If you have an Instacart membership, Peacock is included in the subscription for free.
Not that big of a deal but certainly annoying. For anyone on the fence about the service’s price I suppose there will be a lot of cancellations. These streaming services just don’t work financially without paying too many billions for content
I didn’t know that about peacock. Does it have any other European soccer like Serie A or tournaments?
That’s the main benefit of Peacock for a lot of people! Paramount+ has Serie A & Champions League. You can get that with Walmart+ which is also free with the platinum card.
This isn’t that big of a deal at least for those using Amex credits. Just wait till They have the 1 year deals and you’re golden. I ven have them overlapping for 2 accounts so that if that gravy train ever ends I’m good for a bit. No need to worry about monthly payments.
How do you utilize the monthly Amex credits if you pay annually?
Only subscribe for Liverpool FC games I am not interested in anything else on this platform
