Quick Thoughts
This is an easy win which I’m assuming is open to everyone who hasn’t installed Rakuten’s browser extension before. Based on the terms listed in the image above, there’s no requirement to actually use the extension to make a purchase – you just have to install the extension. I just did this and it’s done in two clicks, so nice and easy.
There’s nothing listed in the terms about how long you have to keep the extension installed, but it might be worth keeping it 30 days just in case. The terms mention that it might take a week for the bonus to be awarded, so you’d only be having to deal with the notifications for another few weeks after that.
If your account is set up to earn Membership Rewards, you’ll presumably be awarded 2,000 Membership Rewards instead which makes this offer even better if you value those points at greater than 1cpp.
$20/2,000 Membership Rewards seems like a pretty generous bonus considering all you have to do is install the browser extension, but more and more sites and apps are offering them now, with PayPal pushing its recently-acquired Honey service. With holiday shopping coming up, Rakuten presumably figures $20 or 2,000 Membership Rewards is a small price to pay if it ensures customers earn cashback through them rather than via other services and portals.

So what if I’ve used the extension before? Can I install it in a different browser and get the credit? Or is it tied to my Rakuten account specifically? Do they even know by my account whether I’ve used a plugin before?
I imagine it’s tied to your Rakuten account, but I’m not 100% certain on that.
Bonus posted for me in a couple hours. Thanks for the tip!
Are you sure this is not targeted? I don’t see anything about it on Rakuten’s website when I log in, nor did I receive an e-mail about it.
It might be targeted, although there wasn’t anything in the terms stating that it is.
