Quick Thoughts
As always, compare rates using a tool like Cashbackmonitor as not all stores will really be “triple” the normal rates (and in some cases may not even be the best rate currently available). However, in some cases there will surely be great deals. Note that there are in-store offers that are increased as well, so it is probably worth syncing up a card if you’ll be shopping in-store over the weekend.
Some people have apparently been targeted for 20% / 20x at Saks Fifth Avenue, but I’m only seeing 2% in my account. If you’ve got 20x / 20%, now would be a great time to make use of an Amex Platinum credit.

I made a saks purchase with my platinum card on the night of June 28th and it posted to my amex account on June 30. The $50 credit hasn’t posted yet though. Did I screw up and my credit will be counted for July-Dec? Or did I just sneak it in for Jan-June because the charge posted on June 30th? I remember you had an issue where you were trying to use the platinum travel credit on New Years Eve and it ended up being applied the following year, but I couldn’t find that article in the Frequent Miler archives…
It’s the date on your statement that matters. If it posted with a June 30th transaction date, you’ll get the credit for January to June. It doesn’t matter what day the credit posts. You should get that $50 credit in the next couple of days and then you’ll have another $50 credit to use between now and December.
The issue I had was that I bought United Club passes on December 31st that therefore showed a December 31st expiration day year later, but the transaction date on my AmEx statement said I bought them on January 1st. United must not have finalized the transaction until the next day.
Thanks Nick. As it is, I’m a little surprised it took 2 days for the purchase to post. I almost waited until the 29th to make the purchase. I’m happy I didn’t!
