Rakuten is offering a best-ever $40 referral bonus (which could alternatively be 4,000 American Express Membership Rewards points) for both you and your friend when you refer a new member and they spend $40 or more. That’s a total of $80 or between the two of you (or better still if you earn Membership Rewards points), which is an excellent deal.

Quick Thoughts
This is a great deal if you have friends or family members who have never used Rakuten before. The timing is also excellent since many stores are offering 15x / 15% cash back through 5/17/21. If your friend spends $40 through one of the stores included in that promotion, they’ll get $6 cash back on top of the $40 referral bonus, which ought to be enough to convince someone to try it out.

I just referred someone with the $30 offer 2 days before they increased it to $40. Any chance they’d bump up our offer if I contact Rakuten?
I think it’s doubtful that they will bump it up, but I always say that you hit 0% of the balls at which you do not swing. There’s no reason not to try.
