Thanks to an ongoing Sam’s Club membership deal and a new Amex Offer, it might be possible to make a profit of almost $60 when buying a Sam’s Club membership. Here’s how to stack the offers:
Offer 1 – Scan & Go For It – $45 Back
We’d written about this offer a couple of months ago, so see: [Back again] Sam’s Club Membership: Stack Offers To Make $19 Profit. That offer was due to expire on February 28 and it was then extended to March 7. Despite the website still listing March 7, a reader subsequently advised that the email they send you with a link to sign up lists April 21 as the expiry date.
To quickly summarize that offer, you sign up using a special link and get $45 off your first purchase. Something important to note is that you have to spend $45 on items with no instant savings. I went to Sam’s Club last week to take advantage of the offer and it didn’t trigger the $45 discount. That’s because I’d forgotten about the exclusion regarding instant savings, so I had to head back round the store to pick up a few different items.
Given that a Sam’s Club membership costs $45, the $45 you get back effectively means you break even. These following stacking opportunities are what can make it profitable.
Offer 2 – Amex Offer – $25 Back
A new Sam’s Club membership Amex Offer appeared today and is targeted. This offers $25 back when spending $45, so it’s a pretty good deal.
In Doctor of Credit’s coverage of it, Chuck had said that he thought the Amex Offer and the Scan & Go For It offers should stack. I wasn’t entirely sure that’d be the case initially as the Scan & Go For It offer requires the use of coupon ID 11930 or 11931, while the SamsClub.com/JoinAMEX link displays a coupon ID of 11659.
Both Chuck and another commenter made good points though. Chuck mentioned that American Express just tracks the charge which makes sense – the coupon ID is more for Sam’s Club’s benefit in order to track which promotion encouraged a member to sign up.
The other commenter also managed get the Amex banner to show up having clicked a Scan & Go For It link. He also provided a link in his comment that includes both the Scan & Go For It and Amex Offer coupon IDs, so that might work.
Offer 3 – Cashback Portal – $3.15
Several shopping portals are currently offering 7% cashback when taking out a Sam’s Club membership. Based on the membership fee of $45, you’d earn $3.15 cashback.
To include this in the stack, you’d need to first click through to Sam’s Club from the shopping portal, then copy and paste the Scan & Go For It URL in the address bar. I can confirm that I did this a week or two ago and the transaction tracked through TopCashback. It’s still in pending status, but I’d imagine it’ll move to confirmed and then become payable in the coming weeks and months.
Offer 4 – Acorns – $10
Acorns offers $10 in Found Money when paying for a Sam’s Club membership with a card linked to your Acorns account. We paid for my Sam’s Club membership using one of my wife’s cards and $10 is now pending in her Acorns account.
If you’re new to Acorns, feel free to use one of our referral codes with our thanks – you’ll get $5 as will we when you invest at least $5:
Offer 5 – Dosh – $20
Dosh offers $20 cashback when paying for a Sam’s Club membership with a card you’ve linked to the Dosh app.
In the past, they offered the $20 cashback on any Sam’s Club membership, but the in-store offer recently stated that it was only payable when taking out a $100 Plus membership, whereas the online offer didn’t include that requirement. When checking the app just now though, that $100 Plus membership requirement has been completely removed, so there shouldn’t be any risk that you won’t receive the $20 back due to that.
Having said that, my cashback didn’t appear to track with Dosh when I took out my membership, so I’ve just followed up with them about that.
Totals
If you stack all these offers, you should get the following back:
- $45 from Scan & Go For It.
- $25 from Amex Offer.
- $3.15 from shopping portal.
- $10 from Acorns.
- $20 from Dosh.
That’s a total of $103.15 which, after you account for the $45 membership fee, becomes a profit of $58.15.

I have both AMEX offers, Spend $50+, get 1,000 Membership Rewards® Points and Spend $45 or more, get $25 back. Will I get both with one $50 purchase?
I think the $50 spend one specifically excludes membership purchases. I tried using that one anyway when purchasing a membership the other week, so I’m waiting to see if it’ll trigger the offer as I had to spend an extra $5 seeing as the membership cost is $5 short of the spend threshold.
Thanks Stephen. Hope it works, if not, I’ll be happy enough with the $25 back.
Hey Stephen – did you get the $10 from Amex? I just signed up for Sam’s Club today, and I have the $10 off $50 amex offer, so trying to determine whether I need to spend $50 or just $5 to trigger the offer. Offer expires March 28 so probably don’t have time to try $5 first, and I’ve got more walmart giftcards than I need so don’t want to spend $50 if not necessary for the $10. Thanks.
I didn’t unfortunately. I ended up ordering a Spotify gift card for $90 online and split payment between two cards with the $10 Amex Offer. I put $60 on one card and did earn the 1,000 Membership Rewards. I put the remaining $30 on the card I’d bought the membership with seeing as I needed to get over $45 in spend, but the $10 statement credit was never awarded.
Dang. I got a $10 back for $50+ Amex offer.
Has anyone bought a membership through the $45 coupon link and triggered the AMEX $25 offer?
Any reason the $45 off coupon can’t be used on samsclub.com? I don’t have one close to me. The terms of the offer say:
The $45 incentive will be automatically deducted through Instant Savings at checkout when you purchase at least $45 in eligible products. Should you need to return any of the items purchased on this basket, the prorated discount will be factored into the return value on any eligible products. See the Sam’s Club terms and conditions for more details on our returns policies. Eligible products are regularly priced items sold in-club or online at and by SamsClub.com
Yep, I think it can be used online too.
Just FYI, it doesn’t give you a coupon code for $45 off per se. Instead, it automatically deducts $45 from your total when checking out as it’s already linked to your membership number.
Cool, will give it a try tonight, thank you!
What if your membership lapsed and you’re not brand new?
I think the way Sam’s Club works is that you have to not have had a membership within the last 6 months, although that might be BJ’s or Costco I’m thinking of.
If you have a partner, they could take out the membership instead and you can be added for free as an additional member. That’s what we did as my wife was the one who’d had our Sam’s Club membership previously.
