Last year, SAS (Scandinavian Airlines) ran an incredible promotion offering 1 million points when flying 15 different SkyTeam airlines before the end of the year.
Greg, Nick and I subsequently set off on a quest to each earn 1 million points each – and succeeded! We weren’t the only ones, as several Frequent Miler readers and members of our Frequent Miler Insiders Facebook group reported that they’d achieved the same feat.
One of the sweet spots of the SAS EuroBonus program is the ability to book flights between the US and Europe for only 50,000 points one way in business class when flying SAS metal. That sweet spot has become significantly sweeter as SAS is currently offering a 25% discount on award flights, reducing the price to only 37,500 points one way.

Quick Thoughts
My wife and I flew SAS business class for the first time a couple of months ago to start redeeming my million points. It was a solid product; not the very best business class experience we’ve ever had, but for only 50,000 points and $5.60 per person, it’s certainly one of the best value transatlantic redemption options if you have a stash of SAS points.
Well, it can now become even better value as this SAS sale is giving a 25% discount on award flights. That means that business class award flights get reduced from 50,000 points one way to 37,500. SAS Plus Pro (premium economy) drops from 40,000 to 30,000, while SAS Go Pro (economy) drops from 30,000 points to 22,500.
If you’re traveling with kids, that pricing becomes even more incredible. SAS offers a 50% discount on award flights for children ages 2-11 on an ongoing basis and that discount is available even at these sale prices. That means that – provided you can find availability – you can book children for only 18,750, 15,000 or 11,250 points in business, premium economy or economy respectively.
All of the pricing listed above is based on standard awards being available. The SAS EuroBonus program appears to have taken a leaf out of Hilton’s book whereby if there are no standard awards, you can book at premium reward pricing – think 200k for economy, 500k for premium economy and 1 million+ for business. When running some searches, those higher awards weren’t benefiting from the 25% discount from this sale. That doesn’t really matter though because even if they were available for 25% off, the pricing would still be abysmal.
Business class availability from the US to Europe can be hard to come by, especially if you’re looking to travel in June. July has better award availability if you have some flexibility as to which specific day you travel, with business class awards being available from Boston, Atlanta, Newark and Seattle. Nick helpfully reminded me that Seats.aero has a useful tool for seeing SAS availability at a glance, so that’s worth checking out.
Booking from Europe to the US on the other hand is much more achievable. For example, there are 15 days in June where you can book Copenhagen (CPH) to Washington Dulles (IAD) for only 37,500 points.
Note that Seats.aero is displaying the standard award pricing; if you go on to search on the SAS website or app, you’ll see those routes as being available for only 37,500 points. Taxes and fees from Copenhagen to the US are a somewhat reasonable ~$90.
The 37,500 points pricing for business class is available for further afield in Europe too. For example, you can fly London to Washington D.C. via Copenhagen for 37,500 miles too, but the UK’s high taxes and fees meaning you’re looking at paying $350 per person as well.
Originating in a different European country could reduce those taxes and fees though. For example, Milan to Washington D.C. via Copenhagen is bookable for 37,500 miles + ~$64 per person.
Note that although this award sale is valid on flights through September 30, you have to book by May 18 in order to get the discount.

Taxes on the US to Europe routes? What points transfer to SAS?
We only had to pay $5.60 in taxes when flying EWR-CPH a couple of months ago. Unfortunately no programs in the US transfer to SAS right now.
How would one transfer points to SaS?
They’re sadly not a transfer partner of any of the major programs in the US.
Wow, those kids discounted prices in business class for only 18,750 miles each way are insane!
Is there specific SK verbiage that limits this to US only? The direct link to offer says “Now you get a 25 % points discount on bonus trips within SAS entire network.”
Entire network should include the rest of the world, no?
Either way, not complaining, but I would love a US > CPH > BKK redemption for 75k
Yep, it appears to be valid on all flights in the SAS network.
