Fairmont is returning tomorrow (May 4) with its twice-annual gift card sale that can save you 16.67%. Depending on how much your upcoming stays will cost, where you’ll be staying and when they’ll be, there’s an Amex Offer that could save you even more.
The Deal
- Spend $500+ on room rate & room charges in one or more transactions at Fairmont and Sofitel properties in the US & Mexico and get $100 back with an Amex Offer.

Quick Thoughts
If you have an upcoming paid stay at Fairmont or Sofitel properties – or award stays where you’ll have a decent amount of incidental spending – having this Amex Offer that can save you up to 20% is a nice discount.
Their gift card sale gives you a bonus gift card worth 20% of however much you spend on gift cards which effectively makes that offer a 16.67% discount. While this Amex Offer can potentially save you even more than that, it partly depends on the stars aligning for your stay.
One of the key things to be aware of with this Fairmont/Sofitel Amex Offer is that it’s only valid on stays in the US and Mexico, whereas Fairmont gift cards can be redeemed at any Fairmont property worldwide.
The most you can save with this Amex Offer is also only $100, unless you have a P2 with the same offer on one of their cards which would enable you to split a $1,000+ folio on two cards. The gift card deal on the other hand is good when buying up to $5,000 worth of gift cards, meaning you can receive up to $1,000 in bonus gift cards free.
Another possible restriction is the expiry date of the Amex Offer. With it ending on August 31, you’d need to be able to pay for your stay before that date. If paying with gift cards purchased on sale, those won’t ever expire and so there’s no time crunch to be worried about.
This Fairmont/Sofitel Amex Offer is still useful though if you have a stay costing just over $500 or you don’t want to have to fuss around with paying with gift cards when checking out.

No, the Amex Offer is valid through August 31. There was a separate sale on Fairmont gift cards which expired last week.

Do you have more than 100 offers available on your card(s)? If so, that’ll likely be why because Amex only displays 100 offers at a time. Keep adding offers to your card(s) until the total drops below 100 and this Fairmont/Sofitel Amex Offer will hopefully show back up.
Might be a dumb question, but are the gift cards also only valid in the US and Canada or can those be used anywhere?
Not a dumb question. Fairmont gift cards can be used at any Fairmont properties worldwide, not just in the US and Canada.
I’m guessing that if you can only book direct with Fairmont for the $100 off that you can’t use the AmEXp $200 Fine/Luxury credit…am I correct?
It might be possible to stack the two depending on your incidental spending. The FHR benefit is valid on prepaid stays, so the payment for the stay is taken immediately. That means you can’t stack the two offers on that part.
However, if you use the card with the Fairmont Amex Offer at check-in for incidentals and spend $500+, that would work. Given that you’d have free breakfast and a property credit from the FHR booking though, you might not end up spending $500 unless it’s a longer stay and/or you’re eating evening meals at the hotel restaurant a lot.
