Southwest is targeting some Rapid Rewards members with bonus points offers for booking and flying one round-trip flight (Or two one-ways) between now and July 31, 2022. There are three different offers, one giving 50,000 qualifying points towards a companion pass, one giving 15,000 tier-qualifying points and one awarding 10,000 redeemable points.
These tend to be highly-targeted offers, but it’s worth checking your Rapid Rewards account to see if you’ve been targeted.
The Offers
On Southwest Airlines:
- Get 50,000 Companion Pass qualifying points when you register, then book, and then fly one round-trip (or two one-way) qualifying flights** between April 7 and July 31, 2022
- Get 15,000 Tier qualifying points* when you register, then book, and then fly one round-trip (or two one-way) qualifying flights** between April 7 and July 31, 2022
- Get 10,000 Rapid Rewards Points* when you register, then book, and then fly one round-trip (or two one-way) qualifying flights** between April 7 and July 31, 2022
Terms and Conditions
- Qualifying flights include flights paid entirely with dollars, Southwest LUV Vouchers®, gift cards or travel funds, and with no portion of the purchase price paid for with Rapid Rewards points.
- Tier qualifying points (“TQPs”) and Companion Pass qualifying points (“CPQPs”) cannot be redeemed for travel or be transferred, donated, or redeemed through More Rewards. TQPs and CPQPs are only available toward A-List status and Companion Pass qualifying balances for the 2022 calendar year. TQPs or CPQPs will be awarded within 72 hours after completion of the qualifying flight.
- Member will receive TQP, CPQP or Rapids Rewards points toward within four weeks after completion of qualifying flight.
- Changes made to the itinerary after purchase may eliminate qualification for promotion.
- Be sure to register for the promotion before booking.
Quick Thoughts
We used to be targeted by these one-flight offers all the time, but I haven’t seen them in my account for awhile. Neither my wife nor I had them this time.
I personally don’t find the Tier-Qualifying Point promotion to be terribly compelling, but the other two are interesting, especially since you can pay with gift cards and/or with the 20% off promo that Point Debit is running.
50,000 Companion Pass Qualifying Points is 40% of the way to the pass, so that bonus and the current 80K sign-up on the Southwest Performance card would get you a year and a half of companion pass with only one credit card sign-up and one flight. That would be tempting for me, and I rarely fly Southwest.
10,000 Rapid Rewards points is worth about $140 according to our RRV’s and there are many short SW flights on sale for $70 or below, so it could effectively give you 100% “points return” on the money spent.
If you have, or could have, Southwest travel planned before August, it’s absolutely worth checking to see if you’ve been targeted for any of these.

Hello, do you have to book and fly yourself, or can you book for someone else?
So the 50k qualifying points are not actual points that you can use to book flights?
That’s correct, they ONLY apply to Companion Pass qualification
Not sure if it makes any difference, but I have a SWA credit card and the promotion was available in addition to a second promotion for 20% points bonus on SWA credit card spend through May 31, 2022.
Where on their site do these promotions show up?
There is a section called My Promotions on the account summary page.
Probably there. Mine was blank (i.e. not targeted apparently) other than a link to the Southwest shopping portal.
