While on vacation, my wife likes to remind me that one of the biggest perks of using miles and points for flights and hotels is that we have a bigger budget for things like massages, facials and other spa-like things we she likes to do. I am definitely in the minority in that I just don’t get excited about spa days. However, I DO really enjoy saving money and if you book a spa treatment at select spas during spa week you can do just that.

Quick Thoughts
Spa Week is a bi-annual event that runs in the Spring and Fall. Spa Week Fall 2018 will take place between October 15-21. During this time, hundreds of spas across North America will be offering two to three regular spa treatments for only $50 each. Most of the spas participating in spa week are found around major US cities. You can search for a spa near you by visiting the website: https//www.spaweek.com/spaweek-event. You can and should book now (as long as plans are firm) as I imagine these rates are capacity-controlled.
While I will be in Chicago for the Chicago Seminars during the weekend of October 20th, my better half will be there as well visiting some friends. I took a quick look at what was available in Chicago during our time there. The Facial Boutique on North Wabash Avenue is offering three treatments for $50 each: A PCA peel (normally $175), shaping, tinting eyebrows and lashes (normally $80) and microdermabrasion with classic facial (normally $130.) There were more than 27 pages with participating spa results in Chicago. Other notable treatments that I saw as I was scrolling included “Botox 10 units”, “Headache Treatment”, “Best Friends relaxation massage”, “hair removal – small area”….heck, there was even “Pumpkin Spice Pedicure” for those who just can’t get enough of the flavor of fall.
Stacking some extra savings
Note that you can do a bit better yet than the $50 sticker price. Looking at CashBackMonitor.com, I see that TopCashBack is offering 10% back at the time of writing, dropping your net cost to $45. Note that the portal terms indicate that cash back is not valid on the redemption of gift cards. That caused me to look and see that Spa Week gift cards are widely available on resale sites for 19-22% off. However, I don’t see any way to pay with a gift card online.
If you’re paying with a credit card, the AT&T Access More (no longer available for new applicants) would appear to be the logical choice as it may earn 3x (that card earns 3x at online retail and travel sites, though it’s a bit unpredictable as to which will code that way). I’ll use mine to pay for my wife’s treatment(s) as I also have a good retention offer for an extra 2x, which means I might earn 5x. Together with 10% back, I’ll be happy with that.
Bottom Line
Whether you will be home or planning a trip during this time, this might be a great deal to help you treat yourself while keeping as much dough in your wallet as possible. If you were able to find a spa at a hotel you’re planning to stay at, that would be an even more fantastic score.
I believe I was able to use discounted Spa Week gift cards two years ago but they were not allowed as of last year.
