The other day I covered an amazing deal on Spafinder gift cards from Amazon. At the time, Amazon was selling a $100 Spafinder gift card plus a $20 Amazon gift card for $50. The deal didn’t last long, but many of you were able to order.
Now, it seems that Amazon isn’t quite honoring the deal for some people. I had one order go through and ship while another order received the following email:
Hello,
We’re contacting you about order #. We recently discovered an error that caused the following item(s) to be displayed at an incorrect price:
Spafinder Wellness 365 Gift Card $100
In this case, we’re unable to offer this item for the incorrectly posted price. Therefore, we’ve cancelled your order for this item, and you haven’t been charged.
At any given time, despite our best efforts, a small number of the millions of items on our site may be mispriced. We’re very sorry for any disappointment this may cause.
To help make up for the inconvenience, we’ve added a $5 promotional certificate to your account. This amount will automatically apply the next time you buy an eligible item shipped and sold by Amazon.com.
We value your business and hope to see you again soon.
Sincerely,
Customer Service

Others received a similar email including Greg the Frequent Miler. In my case, they actually shipped out the $20 Amazon gift card and charged me $20 for it. That doesn’t quite seem right, but I’m not sure it will be worth the effort to pursue, especially considering the $5 credit.
If you haven’t looked, perhaps check your email to see if they sent you a similar message and check your credit card to see how you were billed.
So far, so good. But thanks for the warning. I was charged $20 for the Amazon gift card (arrived today) and appear to have been charged $30 for a $100 Spafinder GC (supposed to arrive tomorrow – but the $30 charge on my CC is still “pending”).
My wife tried to place an order, too. But by then the price was showing up as $120, so she didn’t place the order.
Wow, this is really bad business. I got the emails too but hadn’t had time to really look at what it all meant. I see I was charged $20 for the Amazon gift card as well. Like you, I don’t know if it’s worth the time to put in a complaint. A part of me wants to at least politely give Amazon an earful over chat. Definitely didn’t think they’d do this, especially considering how big they are and that this deal was pulled within an hour or two of becoming public.
I received the email from amazon. Response email sent back. Not too happy…
