Staples is running a Mastercard gift card deal this week, waiving the activation fees on $200 cards.
The Deal
- Buy $200 Mastercard gift cards with no activation fee at Staples.
- Direct link to weekly ad (see page 7).
Key Terms
- Expires December 7, 2019.
- In store only.
Quick Thoughts
One of the best ways to maximize this deal is by paying with a Chase Ink Plus (no longer available) or Ink Cash card. With the $6.95 savings, you’ll earn exactly 1,000 Ultimate Rewards or $10 for each card you buy. Alternatively, this would be a good opportunity to use the Staples Amex Offer if you’ve saved it to a card and not used it yet.
There’s no limit specified in the weekly ad, so you shouldn’t have any problems from cashiers insisting on a limit of one like with some of their deals.
Just be aware that some people have had issues with Mastercard gift cards in recent weeks and months, so there could be additional hassles involved with buying these. See this post for details on the latest problems: Major problems reported w/ Mastercard gift cards.
Yes the sign in store does say 1 per. My Local Staples would not sell more than one. Big headache.
FYI although the ad doesn’t mention a limit, the signage in store above the MC gift cards says “limit 1.”
