Starting on Sunday 5/22/16, Staples is running a promotion (page 4) offering a $20 Visa gift card via rebate with the purchase of $300 or more in Visa gift cards.
The Deal
Buy $300 or more of Visa® Gift Cards get a $20 Visa Prepaid Card via easy rebate.
Maximizing
Generally with these deals it is best to use a Chase Ink card to earn 5X Ultimate Rewards points or an Amex SimplyCash card to earn 5% cash back at Staples.
The Rebate
The rebate is done completely online and the prepaid Visa rebate card is generally PIN-enabled with the PIN being the last four digits of the card number. There have been some reports lately of the PIN not working any longer, so YMMV.
Key Terms
- Most likely in-store only. The rebate form isn’t up yet, but all of these deals have been in-store only in the past.
- Valid 5/22/2016-5/28/2016.
- Subject to availability.
- Limit 1 per household.

Thanks for catching this news Shawn. I check here first each thurs or fri. (and now I can plan my Sunday a.m. run to Staples) 🙂
To Ryan, there’s multitude of new/old options for GC’s these days… beyond mo’s. (and for them, I used Kroger) See posts on the options via frequent miller. (e.g. esp. prepaid, loadable visa cards — like accountnow, etc. and do go slow)
What are people doing with the GC these days? Is MO @ WM the best bet still? I miss using these deals since my bluebird went away …. 🙁
Shawn, I love this but I don’t get what’s in it for Staples. Do enough people not bother to request the rebate that it’s profitable for Staples?
The vendor pays for the promotion. Staples still makes the fee on the cards. It brings people into the stores and many do buy oher items while they’re there including my family. We shop where we can also ms. The vendor makes money on the interchange fee when those cards are used to buy things at any store. BTW, these gift card vendors are having record profits.
Thank you.
I see they are not doing the instant rebate lately. I scored $7K of cards before my redbird changed.
Yeah that was Officemax/Office Depot. I would love for one of those deals to come back around!

Any idea if this works for online VGC purchase too?
While the rebate form is not yet on their site, none of the past deals have ever worked with online purchases, so I would doubt it.
