Target is returning this weekend with its popular deal giving a 10% discount on their own gift cards. Use caution though if trying to exceed their stated limits.

Target-Gift-CardThe Deal

Key Terms

  • Offer valid December 4-5, 2021.
  • Transaction can include multiple Target gift card items up to $500 ($50 maximum discount).
  • Must load digital coupon.
  • Limit one offer per guest to purchase Target gift cards online or in store.

Quick Thoughts

This deal comes around every holiday season and is always a popular deal as it’s otherwise not often you can stock up on Target gift cards at a 10% discount.

There’s a Target Circle digital coupon for this offer, so I’m assuming you need to load that to your account in order to get the discount. What I’m not sure about yet is if that’s only for online purchases or if you need to have that loaded when buying gift cards in-store too.

Target polices this deal very carefully, so be cautious if trying to buy more than $500 worth of gift cards. They’ve cancelled gift cards people bought in excess of $500 during past deals and weren’t forthcoming with refunds. If you do decide to try buying more than $500 worth, it’s best to use different credit cards as using the same credit card seemed to be one way they identified people buying more than $500 of Target gift cards in separate transactions in the past.

I just got the gift card. Instead of Discover, used BAC card with a 3% online purchase category plus 75% relationship bonus. 5.2% plus 10%.Win win.

Discover has 5% cash back on Target.com this quarter. $500 card, net cost will be $500-$72.50. Did that last year.

Stacking opportunities:

Citi Merchant Offers shows an offer for $10 on $50 spend at Target up to 3 times on a DoubleCash.

SimplyMiles shows an offer for 465 miles on $50 spend at Target, which is linked to the same DoubleCash.

So in theory, buy a $55.56 gift card, get 10% off for $50 at checkout, get $10 back and 465 miles.

Susan

Curious if you’ve found this working for multiple transactions? I see the up to 3x Citi and 465 Simply miles, but the 10% sale is on one transaction up to $500 per the T&Cs.

Kent

Haven’t tried but I never meant to imply you’d get Target’s 10% off GC promo more than once. You could try using the same Citi card on different Target accounts though.

If you have a Mastercard with AA, you can get 2xmiles at Target (must spend at least $50) twice, using Simply Miles. Seems like Target gift cards are still sold on a Target site, and Simply Miles fine print does not appear to exclude gift card purchases.
