Update: As per comments below, some people are seeing a 30% transfer bonus.
American Express is offering a 10% bonus (and possibly higher?) when transferring Membership Rewards to Hilton Honors. This is a targeted offer, so you’ll need to log in to see if you have this offer available to you, although it’s probably not worth taking advantage of.
The Deal
- Get a 10% bonus when transferring American Express Membership Rewards to Hilton Honors.
Key Terms
- Expiry date unknown.
Quick Thoughts
Membership Rewards usually transfer to Hilton on a 1,000:2,000 basis, so with this promotion you’d get 2,200 points for every 1,000 points transferred. This appears to be a targeted promotion though – I have it on my account, but my wife is still showing the regular 1,000:2,000 ratio.
The ratio itself might be targeted as well. In the past, we’ve seen people being offered 10%, 20% and 30% bonuses, so that might be the case again here.
Even with a bonus, it’s probably not going to be worth transferring Membership Rewards to Hilton. I usually get at least 1cpp of value when redeeming my Hilton Honors points as I take advantage of the 5th night free on award stays, but you can often buy Hilton Honors points for 0.5cpp. That means in many cases you’re better off buying points if you need them. Nick ran the math in the past to ascertain if it’s worth spending on a Hilton card; much of the logic in that post can be carried over here when deciding whether to transfer Membership Rewards.
Please let us know in the comments below if you were targeted for a better transfer bonus than 10%.
