Update 8/14/20: When publishing this deal a couple of weeks ago, none of the Chase cards my wife and I hold were eligible for this offer.
Since then, we were finally able to successfully register for the Marriott 10x promotion at gas stations and restaurants. I therefore decided to try registering all our different Chase cards using the link below and we were now targeted for 5x at grocery stores and gas stations on my United card and all our IHG Premier and IHG Select cards.
It’s therefore worth trying to register your Chase cards again in case you’re targeted after all. Remember that you can also earn 5x/3x on Sapphire Reserve and Sapphire Preferred cards respectively at gas stations (along with bonused spend on Instacart and streaming services) without needing to register.
~
Chase is continuing to try and encourage more spending on their credit cards as they’re currently sending out targeted emails to cardholders of some of their co-branded cards offering 5-7x points or miles on up to $1,500 of spend on groceries and gas by September 30, 2020.
The Deal
- Earn 5x or 7x total points / miles on grocery store & gas station purchases on select Chase co-branded cards.
- Targeted Avios cards will earn 7x on restaurant purchases in addition to grocery stores and gas stations.
- No direct link to offer (activation link will be in an email), but check Chase’s MyBonus landing page to check if you’re targeted.
Key Terms
- Limit $1,500 spend per month in combined purchases.
- Offer valid August 1 to September 30, 2020.
Quick Thoughts
If you’re targeted for this offer you should receive an email with an activation link, but it’s worth checking your eligibility using the MyBonus link above just in case.
The email from Chase states that it’s 5x total points or miles at grocery stores and gas stations. That means it’s a bonus 4x on Southwest and United cards, but only a bonus 3x on IHG cards because their cards already earn 2x points per dollar in both of those categories.
Update: docntx has commented below to share that they have an offer on their British Airways Avios card for 7x.
With a limit of $1,500 of spend per month for the next couple of months, it’ll be easy to max out that limit when buying just three Visa gift cards, although organic spending at grocery stores can already help you along the way to that $1,500 limit. Earning 7,500 points/miles per month on United and Southwest cards is a good return. Putting that spend on IHG cards is less enticing due to the lower valuation of their points and thus lower overall return, but if you don’t have any other cards that offer bonused spend on groceries, I guess it could be worth considering.
Note that although the targeted emails have been going out today, the bonused spend doesn’t start until August 1. It’s therefore not possible to get in three months worth of bonused spend by going out to spend $1,500 in the next couple of days.

I don’t know if others are seeing this, but I received an offer for 4x points on everyday spend from Chase Amazon Visa until Feb. 11, 2021. Since those points can be used on Amazon or for cash, that seems like a pretty good deal. It will certainly top the 2.62 points on everyday spend I get with the BOA Premium Rewards card.
worked for my southwest personal card!! Thank u for the link to check if eligible!!
I activated the 5x SW offer today, August 18, on the day I received the offer. Will my spending from August 1 to August 18 count for the bonus? If not, why Chase sends targeted offers so late?
I’m not sure. With the Chase Marriott promo for 10x at gas stations, Chase advised us that earnings would be retroactive, so provided you registered before the end date, any spend during the promotion period would be eligible for the bonus points.
I’m not sure if that’s the case with this specific offer, but if they’ve set it up that way for the Marriott offer, it makes me think that you’ll earn the bonus points for purchases you’ve already made.
There’s no guarantee of that though, so I’d count it as a bonus if you get it, but I don’t know if there’d be anything you could do if they didn’t award points for purchases before registering.
I signed on for this offer with the Marriott card for the gas bonus points as it sounded good or at least better than standard earning, then before using it got to thinking that a $35 tank of gas would earn 350 points, and to stay at a Marriott worth much you’d need 35K points, so that’s one hundred tanks of gas.
At the rate I buy gas that would take several years.
[…] Update 8/14/20: More people targeted. Hat tip to FM […]
Just got the 5x on both United and SW priority card. Thank you guys! Keep up the great work!
5x offers on SW and two IHG cards. Procrastinated with starting to work on the SUB on the IHG Premier card, now have a chance to earn 15k pts + 140k SUB for $3k in grocery spend. Thank you FM!
Awesome, glad it’s going to work out well for you 🙂

Worked on my Ritz Carlton 10x, IHG 5X
It might be worth double checking the Ritz-Carlton offer – I’ve a feeling the 10x is only valid at gas stations and not grocery stores as it’s likely this separate offer you just registered for: https://frequentmiler.com/chase-marriott-cards-earn-10x-at-gas-stations-restaurants-on-up-to-3500-spend-ends-9-15-20/
Of course, you are right! You will earn a total of 10 points for each $1 spent, on up to $3,500 in total combined purchases, in the restaurant and gas station categories from 07/15/2020 to 09/15/2020
That’s a much better offer if you can max out that spend at gas stations, so that’s great 🙂
What are the best gas stations to check for GCs? Marathon?
Speedway is great because you can also earn Speedy Rewards when buying third party GCs.
7-Eleven can be good for VGCs as well as third party GCs if your local one codes as gas. I’m not sure about Marathon as I don’t know if they sell GCs.
Thank you, Stephen!
Just checked our BA card, and it has 7 Avios at Gas Stations, Restaurants and Grocery Stores through August and September.
Thanks for the heads up – I’ll add that to the post.
Not Restaurants…
