Quick Thoughts
This award sale means you can fly between Chicago O’Hare and Istanbul from only 15,000 miles one way. Based on the searches that I did, it looks like there’s some pretty good availability out there. Taxes and fees in that direction come to ~$90.
The terms suggest that the discount is only valid on flights to/from Istanbul. However, if you want to travel beyond Istanbul it does seem to take into account the discount for the ORD-IST leg. For example, Chicago to Dubai via Istanbul is pricing out at 27,500 miles one way.
Bear in mind that this award sale is only valid on economy class tickets and that there’s a weirdly long two month blackout period for most of the first half of the promotion period.

Any thoughts on safety with traveling to Turkey?
Very safe. This is from my own personal travels and many others who’ve gone. Generally safer than or as safe as other European countries. I’ve never dealt with any crime, let alone petty crime. But you’ll probably have to haggle for everything in the tourists spots but that’s not new anywhere
[…] Turkish Airlines has an award sale for half off of flights to and from Chicago for travel either in the next three days or between January 16, 2024 and March 31, 2024, but again, only in economy. Sorry bourgeoise. (Thanks to FM) […]
