Wyndham Points + Cash reservations now bookable with as few as 750 points

Wyndham Rewards has made a minor change to their loyalty program when it comes to booking Points + Cash stays. They’ve halved the number of points you have to redeem when booking with both points and cash which means those types of reservations now require as few as 750 points.

Wyndham Rewards Points + Cash

As a reminder, Wyndham Rewards has three fixed redemption levels for full award nights – 7,500, 15,000 and 30,000 points. In the past, if you wanted to book a Points + Cash stay you had to redeem 1,500, 3,000 or 6,000 points respectively (i.e. 20% of the full points requirement) along with a cash co-pay depending on what the room rate was.

With this change, you’ll now be able to redeem as few as 10% of the required points, but with a higher cash co-pay. For example, at the 7,500 point redemption level, you can choose between 750, 1,000 or 1,500 points.

While Points + Cash redemptions can sometimes provide good value for your points, the above example isn’t one of them. You’d be much better off just redeeming the full 7,500 points (if you have them).

At the 15,000 point level, you’ll be able to redeem 1,500, 2,000 or 3,000 points for Points + Cash bookings.

Meanwhile, at the top award redemption end, 30,000 point properties will allow you to book using as few as 3,000, 4,000 or 6,000 points. Note that not all properties have Points  + Cash options, even if full award stays are bookable. Others might not have every Points + Cash level available. For example, for the Wyndham Garden Chinatown in New York which normally costs 30,000 points per night, only the 3,000 and 4,000 Points + Cash levels were available on the nights I checked.

While this isn’t a massive change, any time a loyalty program provides more options for redeeming points it’s a good thing. In this instance, it’ll prove particularly useful for those with orphaned points that might otherwise go to waste. If someone had 1,500 points previously, their only redemption option would’ve been for one Points + Cash night at a 7,500 point per night property. Now, they could book two nights at a 7,500 point property (i.e. 750 points per night), or one Points + Cash night at a 15,000 point property.
