(EXPIRED) Wyndham Rewards Shopping Portal: Earn High Rates At Select Retailers (Groupon 36x, Apple 9x, Dell 12x & More)

The Wyndham Rewards Member Month promotions continue today with what they’re marketing as an opportunity to earn 5x the normal earning rate when shopping through the Wyndham Rewards shopping portal. Their math is fuzzier than a peach with a beard after it’s been blow-dried, but there are still some good rates available.

Key Terms

• To qualify for the 5X Wyndham Rewards bonus points offer (“5X Bonus Points Offer”), a Wyndham Rewards Member must, between 5:30 AM EDT March 23, 2022 and 11:59 PM EDT April 21, 2022 (the “Promotion Period”): make a purchase on www.wyndhamrewards.com/shopping while signed in to their Wyndham Rewards account (each, an “Offer Qualifying Purchase”).
• A Member who qualifies for the 5X Bonus Points Offer will receive 5X Wyndham Rewards bonus points for each Offer Qualifying Purchase completed (i.e., five (5) times the amount of Base Points such Member would have earned for such purchase pursuant to the terms and conditions for the Collinson Latitude Ltd shopping site, set forth below (the “Shopping Site Terms”).
• The Wyndham Rewards bonus points earned by a Member pursuant to these Promotion Terms (the “5X Bonus Points”) will be posted to such Member’s Member account within 45 days following the completion of such Member’s Offer Qualifying Purchase.
• All purchases are subject to the retailer’s terms and conditions.

Quick Thoughts

The headline rate of this offer – earning 5x on purchases through the portal – sounds amazing, but their marketing team seems to have a very loose grasp on the reality of this. So much so that I think we need to establish The Derek Zoolander Frequent Miler Center for Children Marketers Who Can’t Read Math Good and Wanna Learn to Do Other Stuff Good Too.

The Member Month landing page for this offer states the following:

For a limited time, earn up to 30 rewards points per dollar (that’s 5X points!) on all purchases made through Wyndham Rewards Online Shopping—including retailers like Groupon, The Home Depot, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Macy’s

When viewing the rate for Home Depot it currently says you’ll earn 3x. The thing is, I’m pretty sure that this promotion doesn’t mean you’ll earn quintuple that rate (i.e. 15x) because when Wyndham Rewards has run these portal promotions in the past the rate you see is the rate you get. It might therefore be that the Home Depot rate will get increased at some point in the next few weeks while this promotion is running.

Past “5x” promotions have been amazing at times, such as when Greg earned 124x on purchases from Things Remembered. That 124x rate was the base rate listed – it wasn’t 124x multiplied by five.

I’m almost certain the same thing is happening here too, but there are still some great rates available nonetheless. For example, earning up to 36x on Groupon purchases is an excellent return. Most shopping portals offer varying amounts depending on if you’re buying Local Deals, Getaways or Goods, with Local Deals attracting the highest rates elsewhere. I’d therefore guess that you’ll earn 36x for Local Deals, but a lower multiple for Getaways and Goods.

Other notable retailer rates include Apple at 9x, Dell at 12x, Macy’s at 15x, Raise at 6x, Rimowa at 33x and more. If you want to sort retailers by highest rate, visit this page and click the ‘Sort By Points’ tab. It only displays 24 retailers at a time, so you’ll have to keep scrolling to click ‘View More’.

Note that there have been various tracking issues with the Wyndham Rewards portal with past “5x” promotions. Purchases themselves have tracked, but usually at a much lower rate than the portal listed and so people (including Greg with his 124x offer) have had to file a claim on the portal in order to get the correct rate. It’s therefore worth taking screenshots of rates when you click through just in case you need evidence if/when you have to make a claim in the future.
