In the same way that airlines are offering inexpensive cash upgrades to domestic first class to avoid tier status-based complimentary upgrades, I can imagine that hotels will use award inventory controls to do the same with suite upgrades. VFTW had an article illustrating what some properties do to convert suite upgrades to purely paid. Another strike against the value of tier status.
