If you need to do a (relatively) last minute 1-800-Flowers order for Valentine’s Day, it’s currently possible to save up to 75% by stacking several offers. Depending on how you value Membership Rewards and United MileagePlus miles, you could get more than 100% of value back, effectively making your orders profitable.

Here are the different offers that will stack with each other.

1) 1-800-Flowers Amex Offer

There’s a 1-800-Flowers Amex Offer that’s due to expire on February 15 of which there are two versions:

  • Spend $50+ & get $15 back, or
  • Spend $50+ & get 1,500 Membership Rewards

2) Dosh App

Once you’ve loaded an offer to one of your Amex cards (you can load one of each version of the offer to separate cards), make sure the card is linked in the Dosh app because it’s currently offering 15% cashback on 1-800-Flowers orders.

1-800-Flowers Dosh

As you can see in the image above, it states that you can either use the shop button in the app or pay with a Dosh-connected card on their website. Don’t click the shop button in the Dosh app; the reason why is so that you can take advantage of the next step.

If you’re new to Dosh, feel free to sign up using one of our referral links. You’ll earn $5 cashback when linking your first card, as will we. As per Tim’s comment below, it looks like Dosh has updated the referral program at some point, so you’ll now only earn $1 cashback.

3) Acorns or Shopping Portal

The final step is to take advantage of some kind of shopping portal. My initial thought was Acorns because when I was on their site the other day to earn Found Money for an Airbnb booking, I saw that they were offering $15 cashback on 1-800-Flowers purchases.

1-800-Flowers Acorns

This is a great offer because there’s no minimum spend requirement to earn the $15 – any purchase from 1-800-Flowers will trigger the Found Money. It’s not quite as good as past Found Money offers for 1-800-Flowers though. A year or two ago, all you had to do was pay with a card linked to Acorns whereas now the terms state that you have to actually click through to 1-800-Flowers from Acorns. The terms therefore suggest you can no longer stack a shopping portal with Acorns. Having said that, I’d still link your Amex card to Acorns just in case the terms are incorrect and that all you have to do is pay with a card that’s linked to your Acorns account.

If you’re new to Acorns, feel free to use one of our referral codes with our thanks – you’ll get $5 as will we when you invest at least $5:

Alternatively, you could use a shopping portal which, depending on the cost of your order and how you value miles, might prove to be better value than using Acorns. As always leading up to Valentine’s Day, several shopping portals are offering increased payouts for purchases from 1-800-Flowers (see all the rates here).

1-800-Flowers Shopping Portal

The best rates are 30x through the United MileagePlus shopping portal and 25% through Rakuten (formerly Ebates). If your Rakuten account is set up to earn Membership Rewards rather than cashback, you’d be earning 25x Membership Rewards.

Some Payout Examples

OK, so that’s how you can stack the offers, but here’s a look at how it all adds up in a few different scenarios. One thing I’m not 100% certain about is if shopping portals track the entire order amount or only the amount before shipping fees.

Seeing as the Amex Offer is triggered when spending $50, here are some options based on that. All these examples are also based on spending exactly $50; the amount you’d earn back will therefore vary depending on your actual order total.

We’ll start by looking at how it adds up with the statement credit version of the Amex Offer.

Option 1 – Amex Offer, Dosh & Acorns

  • $15 – Amex Offer
  • $7.50 – Dosh
  • $15 – Acorns
  • Total = $37.50 which means savings of 75%

Option 2 – Amex Offer, Dosh & Rakuten (Cashback)

  • $15 – Amex Offer
  • $7.50 – Dosh
  • $12.50 – Rakuten
  • Total = $35 which means savings of 70%

Option 3 – Amex Offer, Dosh & Rakuten (Membership Rewards)

  • $15 – Amex Offer
  • $7.50 – Dosh
  • 1,250 Membership Rewards – Rakuten
  • Total = $22.50 + 1,250 Membership Rewards. If you value Membership Rewards at 1.5cpp, that’s 82.5% of value.

Option 4 – Amex Offer, Dosh & United MileagePlus Shopping Portal

  • $15 – Amex Offer
  • $7.50 – Dosh
  • 1,500 MileagePlus Miles – United Shopping Portal
  • Total = $22.50 + 1,500 MileagePlus Miles. If you value United miles at 1.3cpp, that’s 84% of value.

As you can see, you can get up to 84% of value, or even more than that if you value MileagePlus miles or Membership Rewards at greater than 1.3cpp and 1.5cpp respectively. You can get even more value when paying with a card with the Membership Rewards version of the Amex Offer loaded to it – here are similar calculations in that scenario.

Option 1 – Amex Offer, Dosh & Acorns

  • 1,500 Membership Rewards – Amex Offer
  • $7.50 – Dosh
  • $15 – Acorns
  • Total = $22.50 + 1,500 Membership Rewards. If you value Membership Rewards at 1.5cpp, that’s 90% of value.

Option 2 – Amex Offer, Dosh & Rakuten (Cashback)

  • 1,500 Membership Rewards – Amex Offer
  • $7.50 – Dosh
  • $12.50 – Rakuten
  • Total = $20 + 1,500 Membership Rewards. If you value Membership Rewards at 1.5cpp, that’s 85% of value.

Option 3 – Amex Offer, Dosh & Rakuten (Membership Rewards)

  • 1,500 Membership Rewards – Amex Offer
  • $7.50 – Dosh
  • 1,250 Membership Rewards – Rakuten
  • Total = $7.50 + 2,750 Membership Rewards. If you value Membership Rewards at 1.5cpp, that’s 97.5% of value.

Option 4 – Amex Offer, Dosh & United MileagePlus Shopping Portal

  • 1,500 Membership Rewards – Amex Offer
  • $7.50 – Dosh
  • 1,500 MileagePlus Miles – United Shopping Portal
  • Total = $7.50 + 1,500 Membership Rewards + 1,500 MileagePlus Miles. If you value Membership Rewards at 1.5cpp and United miles at 1.3cpp, that’s 99% of value.

As you can see, those last two options offer 97.5% and 99% of value respectively. If you value Membership Rewards at greater than 1.5cpp or United miles at greater than 1.3cpp, you’d be getting back more than 100%. That effectively makes your orders free – or profitable – and that’s before taking into account the fact that your loved one will get to enjoy a bouquet to go with it.

It’s not clear how long these stacking opportunities will last. The Amex Offer will be around until February 15 and the $15 from Acorns is due to be around until February 29. The portal rates for Rakuten and United might drop at midnight tonight (February 9) though, so it might be worth placing an order in the next few hours if you’re interested. If you do miss out though, keep an eye on portal rates over the next few days as there’s a good chance that other portals will increase their rates.

Other Stacking Opportunities

There might be other stacking opportunities out there, perhaps with other card-linked programs. Are you aware of any others that’ll stack with these three options? If so, please let us know in the comments below.

Only the Amex cash offer and rakuten offer worked. Dosh DIDNT post and it shows on my receipt from 1800 flowers a random code for my last 4 digits

Bobo

Sure will do. I don’t think I’ll end up getting the cash back for some reason in my confirmation instead of actually listing my cards last 4 digits they put random letters…

GR8FUL

Groupon currently has 40 gc for 1800flowers for 20 so that’s additional savings.

Might check into further before buying – I think I’ve read that its treated as a coupon rather than a gift card and can cause problems with these kinds of stacking deals

1800flowers lost my business a few years ago when they stopped allowing most of the good promo codes to be used when you had the Celebrations Passport membership. They made that move with no advanced notice and there was nothing about it in the terms and conditions either.

Bobby

The Amex rewards on Rakuten are only for the item and they don’t include shipping and taxes, so the savings are lower (more likely around 825 in points instead of 1,250 in your example).

abc

1800flower charges big for shipping, the shipping fee alone is enough for buying a bouquet in local Costco. And you cannot use shoprunner if you use portal.

a$]-[u

They have free shipping on select valentine day items! Its not allowing to use free shipping code with portal, only one can be used at a time and it considers portal to be a code 🙁

Yuri

Yes, that sucks, you also can’t use portal and Shoprunner together. You will need to buy their free shipping membership, which costs $30. Well, I guess you can get something for $20+$30 for free shipping membership.

a$]-[u

I bought $30 shipping membership, will plan to use again next year and hopefully few other times to recoup!

Dee

How long does Dosh take to post? I used either Nick’s or your Dosh referral to join, then did the Sam’s Club membership deal, a couple of weeks ago. So far, only $1 is posted for adding a card. Nothing for using the card to buy a Sam’s Club membership or opening a new account. I’m trying again today for the 1-800-Flowers deal. I’m thinking this is probably my last attempt if nothing happens with this one.

Dee

Thanks, Stephen. I’ll reach out to Dosh about the Sam’s Club offer and see what happens with 1-800-Flowers

Points For Four

Been waiting for an article like this. Since I’m gonna have to buy some flowers I might as well maximize the points!
Thank you!

tim

I just signed up for Dosh using your link and only got $1 for adding a card, not $5. Please update this post
