A new Amex Offer showed up today on my wife’s Gold card good for 100% back on CLEAR, up to $179 back (enrollment required). That was a surprising offer to see given that Amex just made the same type of CLEAR reimbursement one of the new benefits of the Platinum cards. While the offer on the Gold card is only valid for a few months, I was still surprised to see this benefit completely covered with the Gold card also via Amex Offer.
The Deal
- A new Amex Offer is out for CLEAR that’s good for 100% back on a single purchase up to $179 back. Enrollment required.
Key Terms
- Expires 10/30/21
- Valid online only at Clearme.com
- Not valid for e-gift card purchases
- Subscription to CLEAR will be set to auto-renew
Quick Thoughts
Again, I was surprised to see this show up on a Gold card after the recent fee increase on the personal Platinum with this CLEAR benefit being one of the new additions on that card. It feels like this offer dilutes the value of the Platinum card benefit.
For those who can use this offer, it’s potentially a great benefit. You’ll get 100% back on a single purchase up to $179. As many have pointed out, those clicking through their airline program accounts can often get a discounted price of $109-119 for the first member and $50-$60 for an additional family member meaning that this offer could 100% cover the CLEAR membership cost for 2 people. Update: Note that reader ceejayoz reports in the comments that the charges for 2 memberships post separately, so this Amex Offer may not cover the second person after all.
That’s an excellent deal for those looking for CLEAR membership.
This wasn’t on mine. I just called AMEX and they said it’s no longer available for Gold cardholders.
Interesting observation: When I first selected the CLEAR offer on my AE Gold card, it said that it was good for a single purchase. Now, it says “Get 100% back as a statement credit by using your enrolled Card to make purchases online at clearme.com by 10/30/2021. Limit of $179 in total statement credits.” It looks like the “single purchase” language has been removed.
Do we get grandfathered into this 119+50 (P1+P2) price forever if we take up this Delta deal? This will help in just putting the clear membership on the Platinum card and forget about auto renewal, else the auto renewal for P1+P2 at full price will post on Amex Plat in year 2
Looks like the GC on the site is powered by egifter. Don’t know how it will show up on Amex on check out.
I just can’t get myself interested in Clear, even free. TSA Precheck is already so easy. I guess there are a couple of airports where Precheck lines are often long. But I’ve never seen them!
Yep, I got the offer too.
I have this offer as well, just in time for my renewal. I assume you can stack this with the AA 350 mile and other offers for first-time sign-up.
What AA 350 mile offer, pray tell? Several Google searches and a search of the AA website showed me nothing like this.
Pop CLEAR into the search box at Cashbackmonitor.
It also triggers from AA browser plug-in but is only for new sign-ups
Thank you!
This offer showed for me on my Gold (I’m a non-platinum-holder) but not for P2’s Gold ( who is a platinum-holder)
P2 has this offer on her Gold card even though she is a Plat cardholder too. Crazy!
The offer was available on my Gold Card as well. Thanks for the heads up! Will apply once some data points are available on the additional member.
Be aware: This one only covers “a single purchase online”, and Clear bills for the second user as an additional charge. With the Delta discount, I got one for $119 and another for $60.
Oh, good to know. Updated with that info, thanks!
Interesting! I currently have my brother as a 2nd CLEAR user on my account, and when the membership fee hit my Amex Green Card last year on 7/31/2020 it was a single transaction.
yep, same here; 1 trxn of $159 was just posted (me+fam member)
Wanted to check back in and see if the Amex Offer credit posted for you and if it was only $119 or the full $179? Just got this on one of my no-annual fee cards and trying to plan how to use it with other credits. Thanks
