The Point Debit Card is offering increased rewards at Costco, Whole Foods, and Trader Joe’s through November 28, 2021: get 10x points, which is effectively 10% cash back on up to $500 in purchases at each retailer. That is an awesome return at stores where you can’t ordinarily get such a strong return otherwise.
The Deal
- The Point Debit Card is offering 10x points (worth 10% back) at Costco, Whole Foods, and Trader Joe’s through 11/28 on up to $500 in purchases with each retailer
If you’re new to the Point Debit Card
If you’re new to the Point Debit Card, note that the annual fee is now $99. That gets billed on your first deposit, but as noted above if you sign up by 11/26/21, you’ll get $99 in points if you spend $200 on the card by 12/5/21.
If you want to try it out, feel free to use one of our referral links / codes:
-
- Stephen’s wife’s link (code: SPEPPER4)
- Nick’s link (code:NREYES6)
- Note that if you click through those links on Desktop, you’ll want to make sure that you add the promo code after downloading the app and before signing up. See more detail in this post).
Key Terms
- Earn up to 5,000 points per retailer through this offer ($50 back on $500)
- Excludes physical and electronic gift cards
Quick Thoughts
Stephen at GC Galore notes that Point has sent an email advertising these offers, but some people may be seeing them in the Access offers within the Point app. However, these increased payouts are generally public, so I imagine this will roll out to everyone (and the email certainly sounds public. You may want to wait until you see it in the app before making a purchase.
Note that the way these offers work, Point posts 1x points right away and the rest of the points within 30 days, so don’t expect to see the 10x points immediately after purchase.
The timing on this is fantastic because it would stack nicely with the current referral offer. Point ordinarily requires spending $1,000 in the first 30 days to earn $100 to offset the $99 annual fee. However, the current offer is to get $99 worth of points (to reimburse you for the $99 annual fee) after you sign up and spend $200 on the card before 12/5/21. You need to sign up for that offer by 11/26. Since you can load your Point Debit Card instantly with an existing debit card, you should be able to sign up and fund your Point account right away and stack this 10% return with your initial $200 required spend. That’s a great deal.
Also note that under the current referral offer, you can get a free Rimowa bag (up to $1,000) if you refer 5 people who sign up by 11/26 and spend $200 by 12/5. If you live in a household with multiple players, this offer for 10% back at Costco could make for a nice stack and an easy way to encourage a few folks to sign up for the card right now.
I expect we may see other increased rates in the coming days, so keep your eye out for more Point Debit Card deals.

Can’t make it to Costco in person, but think a Costco Shop card bought online would qualify? Terms say gift cards excluded
How does it works at Costco? It looks like this debit card is serviced by MasterCard. But Costco excepts Visa only.
Point is a debit card, so I expect it works both in-store and online. From Costco.com (bold is mine for emphasis):
U.S. Costco warehouse locations accept:
May also work via Apple Pay / Google Pay / Samsung Pay.
And obviously it works online.
US Costco doesn’t accept MasterCard in-store (but it does online). However, it will accept ATM/PIN debit cards as noted above. If Point can be used with a PIN then it would work, however, would a PIN-based purchase earn points and qualify for bonuses. All too often PIN-based purchases are not included since they typically earn lower interchange fees.
Yes, PIN-based purchases do earn rewards with the Point debit card. The deal terms specifically say that this deal is valid in-store and online.
[…] Replace 11/23/21: Now providing 10x on Costco, Entire Meals, and Dealer Joe’s on as much as $500 in spend. Legitimate till 11/28. Hat tip to FM […]
I went to the site, entered referral code NREYES6, and can see absolutely no clue that I’ll get $99 (or any points) back if I spend $200 by 12/5. Where should I expect to see confirmation of this deal, or do I just roll the dice that I’ll actually get it after being charged $99 after the first time I use i?
Yeah, I wish Point would improve how they display that and have some sort of landing page. Unfortunately, it doesn’t show up anywhere during the sign up process apart from saying that the referral code has been successfully entered assuming that you apply it as you explained. I’ve referred many people to Point since June and to my knowledge they’ve all gotten the advertised bonus. There was a short time when a promo didn’t work right (and I wrote about that), but Point fixed it for people who reached out to alert them. Since this is the current public referral bonus for everyone, I am very confident that it will track properly. Point has been good about posting initial bonuses like this pretty quickly after meeting the requirement, also.
It’s interesting to see Trader Joe’s included, given that they typically don’t believe in coupons or special discounts, choosing instead to offer the lowest prices possible everyday: https://www.traderjoes.com/home/FAQ/general-faqs
Point has had Trader Joe’s at 5% since I signed up for the card in June. This is the first time they’ve upped it to 10% there, but they have been bonusing spend at Trader Joe’s for the better half of this year at least.
[…] Update 11/23/21: Now offering 10x on Costco, Whole Foods, and Trader Joe’s on up to $500 in spend. Valid until 11/28. Hat tip to FM […]
