Quick Thoughts
Ebates offered 12% back on IHG stays at the end of last month, but this 10%/10x offer is also strong.
The nice thing about booking through a portal like Ebates is that you’re taken directly to the IHG website to complete your booking, so your stay should qualify for all the usuals (IHG points, elite benefits, elite credit, etc).
While the Ebates site says that “Specially negotiated rates such as IHG friends & Family are not eligible for Cash Back“, rates like the AAA rate may be an eligible rate for cash back as they have worked for me in the past with other chains. YMMV.
Furthermore, it’s notable that Kimpton is not included on any portals. However, Stephen noted the following in last month’s Ebates IHG deal:
Most of IHG’s brands are listed on Ebates but there are a few exceptions, the most notable of which is Kimpton. That said, I think you can click through to a brand like Holiday Inn Express which is listed, make a reservation at a Kimpton and still earn the 12%. I can’t guarantee that as I’ve not booked a paid Kimpton stay before, but they’re not available on any other portal, so you won’t be missing out by trying to book via Ebates. If you were going to book a Kimpton stay, don’t forget the Amex Offer for $60 back when spending $300.
Keep in mind also that there is no way to apply this to a previous booking; you would need to cancel your existing booking and re-book through Ebates today (though you’ll of course want to check to make sure rates haven’t increased). Cash back posts within a few weeks after completing your stay.
Here is my current record from Ebates as it relates to my IHG & Hilton spend:
12/26/18 InterContinental Hotels and Resorts 49142893 $175.03 $0.00
10/2/18 InterContinental Hotels and Resorts 69106282_NYCMH_0210 $195.00 Pending
7/25/18 Hilton 3469050594_1532586629 $1,235.08 Pending
7/25/18 Hilton 3469050594_1532572229 $1,230.53 Pending
4/13/18 InterContinental Hotels and Resorts 21303597_LAXGY_1304 $65.00 Pending
4/13/18 InterContinental Hotels and Resorts 44994326_LAXGY_1304 $65.00 Pending
Expected around $150 rebate that never materialized and still “Pending”!
I’d have long ago followed up with Ebates if you’ve got cash back pending from a year ago. I’d have followed up a month or so after my stay if I didn’t see the cash back. Not sure if those dates were dates you made reservations or stayed? Were they all paid stays? You might be too late to file a claim with them, but I’d inquire about it if you’ve completed those stays.
Is this available on cash+points stays?
No. Cash + points bookings are really points bookings — you’re just buying the points (if you later cancel, you don’t get cash back, you get refunded in points). Those don’t earn any portal rewards.
