A new Amex Offer came out recently that is good for Celebrity Cruises: Spend $500+, get 12,500 Membership Rewards points. While I imagine that many of us likely won’t be comfortable cruising for quite a while yet, it may still be appealing for cruise fans because of Celebrity’s current flexible cancellation policy.
The Deal
- A new targeted Amex Offer is good for 12,500 Membership Rewards points when you spend $500 or more on a Celebrity Cruise Line booking.

Quick Thoughts
As I’ve said before about the similar Norwegian cruise line deal, I can’t imagine that the cruise industry will be the quickest to recover post-pandemic and I’ve never been a cruise person myself (and have become infinitely less interested given the current environment). That said, this is a great return for those who do want to cruise — and given that cruises can be booked far in advance, it would probably be easy to use this offer for a cruise that takes place far enough down the road that the COVID pandemic will hopefully be behind us.
Keep in mind that Celebrity has a somewhat flexible cancellation policy at the moment as long as you don’t mind being stuck with a future cruise credit if you have to cancel plans. As long as you cancel at least 48 hours in advance, you can get a 100% future cruise credit that can be used on sailings through 2022. That may actually make this offer more appealing since you could presumably book a cruise for sometime late in 2021 and then cancel it down the road and use it to book a cruise departing on or before December 31, 2022 with your future cruise credit and have banked this offer in the meantime. They also have a “lift & shift” policy where you can change to the same cruise at about the same time a year later and keep your price and promotions. Note also that the terms indicate that you can book through a travel professional, so I believe you therefore can stack this with any benefits your preferred travel agent is offering. I’ve suggested in the past that I expect this is possible because even charges through travel agents get processed by the cruise line, but in this case this is explicitly allowed in the terms.

Amex also has an offer on our BB+ cards that say if we spend $500 on an NCL cruise then we get $150 back. We have a 17 day NCL cruise for Panama Canal and 9 day Alaska cruise just booked for next Sept. and Oct. Both were great deals. If you look hard you can find some excellent deals.

It may not be a rocket ship snap back, but the stickiness of cruisers shouldn’t be underestimated. When ships start sailing again, the cruisers will be booking, especially if a deal.
Yep this is true. Looking at prices for cruises in 2021 and you would expect them to be rather less expensive. On the contrary some cruises are more expensive than I’d ever seen them. That seems to indicate a pretty decent demand.. I actually have one booked for Feb (I might cancel) but I plan on using this offer if I do decide to give my full deposit which is due late November.
Wanted to mention there’s another offer out there for $125 back on spending $500. I had this one on my wife’s platinum and the 12500 MR offer on my everyday card so I’m double dipping.
