Update 2/10/25: Despite the promo saying that this bonus would be good until 3/31, it’s already seemingly been pulled – which probably indicates there were some wires crossed to begin with. If you took advantage of it while it was alive, make sure to keep an eye on your account to verify that bonus points where indeed awarded and follow-up with screenshots if it’s not.
~~~
British Airways is offering a 20% bonus when transferring Chase Ultimate Rewards to Avios (and thus potentially to Aer Lingus, Iberia, Finnair and Qatar as well). With the bonus, the transfer rate is 1,000 Ultimate Rewards – 1,200 Avios.
This is being offered on the Avios side, so you won’t see it noted in your Chase account (instead, you can find it here). The offer doesn’t expire until the end of the month and evidently has some terms, despite none being listed on the landing page. I’d imagine that, since it’s being offered from Avios, there will be some amount of time between when you transfer the points and when you received the bonus Avios. I’d take a screenshot of the offer on the BA site just in case there’s any kerfuffles. (h/t: DOC)
The Deal
- Transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards to British Airways Avios and get a 20% bonus (1,000 points – 1,200 Avios).
- Transfer is on the British Airways side
Terms and Conditions
- Expires 3/31/25
- The offer says “terms apply,” but for the life me, I couldn’t find where those terms are. But they apply.
Best Uses for Avios
- Business class to Europe from 34K one-way via Iberia. This is probably my favorite Avios redemption and have one booked this year already. Iberia charges as few as 34K miles off-peak for one-way in business class on its own flights from New York, Boston, Chicago, or DC to Madrid during off-peak season. The fuel surcharges are quite reasonable and they also run seasonal promotions (usually during the Winter) where the prices drop down even further.
- Business class South America from 22K one-way via British Airways. I've used this once and availability can be tricky to find. But when you can find it, BA has excellent pricing for shorter distance non-stop American Airlines award flights.
- Long Haul Business Class on Qatar Airways. After Qatar's addition to Avios, BA lowered many of their award prices on Qatar. It's now possible to travel between the United States and Doha in business for only 70,000 Avios with minimal surcharges.
Things to Know
- Avios Purchases are processed by Points.com and DO NOT count as airfare.
- Avios can be easily transferred between Aer Lingus, Iberia, Finnair, Qatar and British Airways
- Avios expire after 36 months of no activity
- British Airways has near-extortionate fuel surcharges when flying on BA metal. It's best to keep Avios for use with partners or the Iberia Plus
Other Transfer Bonuses
Transfer From | Transfer Bonus Details | End Date |
---|---|---|
Amex Membership Rewards | 15% transfer bonus from Amex Membership Rewards to Avianca LifeMiles | 02/28/25 |
Chase Ultimate Rewards | 30% transfer bonus from Chase Ultimate Rewards to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club | 02/17/25 |
I wouldn’t count on the bonus showing up. No indication when you click through to the chase site. Maybe the bonus hasn’t started yet but I wouldn’t transfer at this point
I transferred and didn’t get the points. What do I do now? Will they show tomorrow?
I hope you took a screen shot of the promo because the language has been updated now to reflect the standard 1:1 transfer ratio
“Iberia charges as few as 34K miles off-peak for one-way in business class on its own flights from New York, Boston, Chicago, or DC to Madrid during off-peak season.” Looking on the Iberia website from Chicago I can’t find anything close to this…when is the off-peak season and which tool is best for finding availability?
how did you get notified of this offer? is there a way to sign up for these notifications through the actual airline partner?
