Chase Sapphire Reserve®: New 150K Welcome Offer

22

The Chase Sapphire Reserve® card now features an increased welcome offer of 150,000 Ultimate Rewards points after spending $6,000 on purchases within the first 3 months.

In terms of total points, this is the biggest welcome offer we’ve ever seen on the Sapphire Reserve. It’s a serious haul and is enough to put the Sapphire Reserve in the #2 slot on our Best Offers Page for consumer cards.

This offer is also showing via referrals I believe, so if you have another Sapphire card in the household, using their referral will add to your total haul.

Notable features of the Chase Sapphire Reserve

  • Points Boost: You can get up to 2.5 cents per point value for travel bookings via Chase Travel with Points Boost offers. Note that we’ve seen significant downward fluctuations in the value of these point boosts, both for hotels and for airfare. 2+ cents per point on hotels is the exception now, not the rule
  • $150 credit every 6 months towards Sapphire Reserve Exclusive Tables: Exclusive Tables is a curated selection of high-end restaurants available through a special version of OpenTable. You do NOT need to make a reservation or pay through Chase or OpenTable in order to earn the $150 rebate every 6 months (from January through June and again from July through December). Simply use your card at one of the included restaurants listed on the platform.
  • The Edit $250 credit: The Edit is a curated list of high-end hotels and resorts. When you book through The Edit, you (usually) get benefits like a $100 property credit, daily breakfast for two, room upgrades, etc. With the Sapphire Reserve card, you can get up to $250 in statement credits twice per year for prepaid bookings made with The Edit. A two-night minimum is required to trigger the credit.
  • StubHub & viagogo credit: Get up to $150 in statement credits every 6 months (January through June, and again from July through December) for purchases on StubHub and viagogo.
  • $300 annual travel credit: Get $300 back each membership year for any travel spend. Qualifying spend does not earn points.
  • DashPass + Monthly DoorDash benefits: Cardholders get a complimentary DashPass membership for 12 months when activated by 12/31/27, plus one monthly $5 restaurant promo and two $10 promos for non-restaurant orders. These coupons must be applied at checkout when placing an order and require using your Sapphire Reserve for Business card and having it enrolled in DashPass. Monthly promos expire each month if unused.
  • Lyft benefits: $10 monthly in-app Lyft discounts, plus earn 5x on Lyft through 9/30/27

Quick Thoughts

This is closer to the offer we were expecting for the initial launch of the new Sapphire Reserve. If you were recently approved for the card, I’d send a secure message to Chase to see if they can match you to this offer.

Regardless of whether or not the card is a keeper (it isn’t for me), the first-year value here is substantial. Not only do you get 150K points after meeting the minimum spend, but in the first year, you’ll also get up to $600 in travel credits, $1000 in credits towards The Edit, $450 for Exclusive Tables, and $450 towards StubHub. The annual fee is steep, but that’s a lot of bling, provided you can use all those coupons credits.

Chase Application Tips

  • 5/24 Rule: You are unlikely to be approved for a new card if you have opened 5 or more cards (with any bank) within the past 24 months. Most business cards do not count towards that five-card total. Business cards that DO count include: TD BankDiscover, and the Capital One Spark Cash SelectSpark Miles, and Spark Miles Select.
  • 24 Month Rule: If you’ve had a card before, you can only get a welcome offer on that card again if you no longer have it, AND it's been more than 24 months since you last received a welcome offer for that card. This rule does not apply to the Sapphire Preferred and Reserve cards (see below). There can also be exceptions with some business cards.
  • Sapphire cards: The Sapphire Preferred or Sapphire Reserve cards no longer have a family rule that prevents you from getting one if you currently have the other. However, both now have limitations that may prevent you from being eligible for a welcome offer if you've previously had the same card. In that event, you'll get a pop-up window telling you that you're not eligible, and you will be asked whether you want to proceed with the application without the welcome offer attached.
  • Southwest "Family" Rules: Chase applies additional "family" rules to the Southwest cards. You're not eligible for the welcome offer on a personal Southwest card if you currently have one, or if you've received a welcome offer on any personal Southwest card within the last 24 months. This doesn't apply to business cards. You also can't be approved for the Southwest consumer card if you already have one open.
  • IHG "Family" Rules: You're not eligible for the welcome offer if you've received one on any personal IHG card within the last 24 months. You also can't be approved for another IHG consumer card if you already have one open. You can have both an IHG personal and an IHG business card.
  • Ink "Lifetime" Rule: You "may not" be eligible for the welcome offer on an Ink no-annual-fee card if you have ever had the same card or any other Chase for Business card without an annual fee. In addition, you may not be eligible for a welcome offer on a Chase Ink Business Preferred card if you currently have the card or have had it in the past. We don't yet know how consistently this is enforced.
  • 2 per month Rule: Most applicants are limited to 2 new cards per 30 days. Business cards are usually limited to one per 30 days.
  • Marriott cards: Approval for any Marriott card is governed by a labyrinthine set of unintuitive rules. You can see the full eligibility chart here.
  • Card Limits: Chase doesn't have a strict limit on the number of cards you can have, but it does place limits on the total credit it will issue across all cards. Because of this, reconsideration can sometimes be successful by moving credit from one existing card to the new card that you want.
  • Application Status: Call (888) 338-2586 to check your application status.
  • Reconsideration: If denied, call (888) 270-2127 for personal cards or (800) 453-9719 for business cards, and ask that your application be reconsidered.

Had the CSR from 2016-2021, tried to apply for this increased SUB and got the pop-up that I’m not eligible for the bonus. Called the reconsideration line to ask why and was told that it was because there is now lifetime language on the CSR and CSP — once you’ve had one, you are no longer eligible for the SUB on that card again EVER. They could see that I’d gotten the CSR bonus in early 2017 (nine years ago) and were not willing to offer it again. So, there’s a data point for you.

Dr. Jay

Approved for CSR while at 5/24 (May 12, 2024 was the oldest counted approval).

Bob

Applied with instant approval. Does that 2026 exclusive hotel credit still apply? $250 I believe for certain brands.

Lee

It’s on the landing page and it is in the offer terms: $250 Credit for Select Hotels through Chase Travel in 2026 for Sapphire Reserve and J.P. Morgan Reserve Personal Cards.

Do we have DPs if Chase does like Amex and “forgets” that you have had the card after ~7 years? Apparently I held on to mine from 2016 until mid-2021, which is I assume when the first AF increase happened.

actualmichael

As we always say, be the data point you want to see. With Chase introducing a pop-up now to let you know of your ineligibility for a welcome offer before moving forward with you application, there is little penalty for just going ahead and trying to apply unless there are a bunch of other cards Chase cards you are trying to get soon instead.

Be aware that the 7 year amnesia with AmEx is probably based on your credit report and the fact that most everything falls off your report in about 7 years. That 7 year timer is based on when your card was closed though, not the date it was opened. So, if the 7 year loophole does apply to Chase as well, you wouldn’t be fully in the clear until mid-2028.

I might give it a go, but I am going to wait a few weeks and hope the offer stays. I was just approved for two new cards that will keep me busy for several weeks, and I have some big bills I can pay in late August as I have the “good” fortune of a 2nd kid starting university and thus having two tuition bills to pay.

Madden

You guys remember when it launched with the MASSIVE offer of 100k plus the travel credit? It’s almost cute how arrogant they were about that and very quickly had to keep increasing the offers.

Jimmy

Uh oh, here comes another VFTW fluff piece.

Tom

I look at the 150k offer. Then, I look at the CSR. Then, I think, “Why do you want to do that to yourself?”

DTT

Well said

Astoria

I see chase is desperate for customers

DTT

No one is biting on this card. Poorly made

Spiel

unreasonable and unjustifiable annual fee is the main reason

Lee

Unjustifiable in terms of coupon hassle. The Amex Platinum has the same annual fee but its coupons require little effort to capture.

By the way, for “best in class” travel protections, check out the $95 annual fee Wells Fargo Premier Autograph. They match or exceed the CSR/Ritz travel protections in every category (except emergency evac/medical). Your Amex Platinum will pick up emergency evac irrespective of card used for travel payment.

Raghu N

3 of us got this card in last 90 days, can we ask Chase to match up

Astoria

The cut off for matching is april 20

actualmichael

Chase’s standard practice for matching offers is if you opened the card within the last 30 days. You can try beyond that, but outside of about a month it’s a YMMV situation.

Great! Remember to go through a friend’s referral link!

Della

Can my daughter refer me from a CSP for the reserve? Or do I need a referral from a CSR cardholder?

Matt

My question, too. The CSR doesn’t seem to be showing up on P2’s referral link from their CSP
