Frequent Miler's latest team challenge, Million Mile Madness, is happening now! Follow us as Greg, Nick, and Stephen compete to earn 1 Million SAS miles by flying 15 airlines before November 23rd. Who will complete the challenge with the most Speed, Affordability, and Style?
This deal is only good through Saturday, so act fast!
A reader tipped me off to this over the weekend (thanks!), but I just now got around to checking it out. Sorry for the delay!
The idea is to go through the Ultimate Rewards Mall to Staples.com. Once there, buy up to $700 in Free After Rebate downloadable software. You will get 4 points per dollar from the Ultimate Rewards Mall and another 5 points if you pay with your Chase Ink card or another 1 point if you pay with any other point earning credit card. If you go all-in for $700, this means that you will earn 6300 Free Ultimate Rewards points with your Ink card or 3500 points with another card.
Staples has an amazingly easy “Easy Rebate” system. Once you purchase the software, they send you a rebate link via email. You click the link, fill out a little bit of info and you’re done.
Here are the steps to follow:
Step 1: Go to Staples via the Ultimate Rewards Mall:
Step 2: Add up to 5 Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security 2012 to your cart:
TIP: Search for item 368665
Step 3: Add up to 10 AVG Internet Security 2012 to your cart:
TIP: Search for item 369321:
Step 4: Check out
TIP 1: If you have a Chase Ink card that gives 5X for office supplies, use it!
TIP 2: Your state may charge sales tax. If you know someone in a state that doesn’t charge sales tax for internet orders (CA, NH, etc.), then set their address as the delivery address and no tax will be charged. These are download only purchases anyway, so nothing will really be delivered. I couldn’t think of anyone’s address to put in, so instead I picked “deliver to store” and picked a store in California that I’ll be close to on a trip next month. Of course, there won’t really be anything to pick up.
Step 5: Submit Easy Rebates
You will receive an email from Staples with a link in it for submitting the rebate form. It’s easy!
NOTE: If you make all of the purchases at once, you only need to submit one rebate per product even if you buy multiple copies of each product. Staples keeps track of how many you bought.
TIP: The AVG software rebate can be changed from a Visa gift card to a check! See screen shot:

That is what I am thinking… My rebate status still says “Validation in progress” and I have yet to receive any UR Points. I am guessing I will not be charged, will not get the UR points and will not get the rebate, but will get a boat load of software for nothing.
Interesting data point for you all… I placed my order on Thursday. I live in Ohio, did ship to CA. All weekend long my order said “Researching”. Got a call on Monday to confirm email delivery when I picked “CA” for ship to address. Confirmed the order and a few hours later got the download instructions (Monday afternoon). The charges have never hit my credit card (used Chase Freedom). Not sure if it will soon or not, but has thus far (but either have the points).
JDF: Interesting. That will be startling if you get the rebates without paying…
I also received a call on Friday from Staples saying that my order was on hold. Called today and was told they just needed to confirm my email address and that I had placed the order. Hopefully the delay does not cost me the points. I do have confirmation that the order was placed prior to the deadline, so that should be sufficient.
UPDATE: My Ultimate Rewards Mall points posted today for this deal! I made the purchases on Thursday.
Kevin: I expect you’ll still get the points. Call Chase if you do not get them.
Had I read the terms more closely, I would have chosen the boxed version so that I could resell them at my work. Though the shipping cost would have to be recouped which I think would have been very doable.
@Greg The Frequent Miler, I bet that’s what you’re planning to do with your copies?

I called this morning and was told my phone number didnt match the cred card co number on their records. Once that was straightened out the order went through.
BothofUs2: Great to hear!
I bought the Mcafee software, item 398466, because the other 2 were sold out. Then when I read the rebate rules, it said only 1 rebate per household. I bought 5 copies. The email with the activation keys also said no refunds. Any ideas on how to limit my losses?
Skoropi: contact Staples to see if they will be willing to cancel your order
Ditto. Researching on my status as well. No phone call received. I used a friend’s CA address for “shipping”.
For those who’s status says “researching”, I expect that they are on hold until Staples’ employees get to work on them on Monday. I expect some of you will get phone calls then.
My order still says “Researching”..
[…] Thousands of Free Ultimate Rewards Points! […]
Just ordered today, followed instructions completely. Got rebate info after a minute. Thank YOU for the tip!
I also received voicemail from staples telling me order is on hold and will be cancelled in 3 biz days if I dont call back. Will have to wait until Monday as the rep indicated weekday only hours of their cust svc center.
Can someone please point me to the limit/per household. I went through the T&C but could not find the 5 limit for the 1st item and 10 limit for the 2nd.
Thanks
d
david h: Here is how to find the rebate T&C (It took me forever to find this too): In Staples.com, go to the product. Look for the underlined word “rebate” and click on it. On the new page that comes up, click the button “Select Form”. Scroll down and view “Promotion Details”
