Starting on Sunday 6/21/15, Staples is running a promotion (page 10) offering a $20 prepaid Visa card via rebate with the purchase of $300 or more in Visa gift cards. This deal is identical to many offers they have run in the past and works exactly the same way.
The Deal
From 6/21/15 to 6/27/15 you can receive a $20 Visa gift card via Easy Rebate with the purchase of $300 or more in Visa gift cards.
Generally with these deals it is best to use a Chase Ink card to earn 5X Ultimate Rewards points or an Amex SimplyCash card to earn 5% cash back at Staples.
Key Terms
- Limit 1 per household
- Available in-store only

Looks like the Staples $20 rebate card is not redbird friendly. I just tried to deposit it and it was declined due to invalid pin. I tried the last 4 which works on most gift cards. Anyone else have better experience?
I just received my $20 GCs from the previous special back in late May. That’s about 4 weeks, which is pretty good.
A question: how do I liquidate them?
They are issued by metabank and they said “Debit” in front, but the instructions that came with the card say to use the card as a ‘credit’ card: “always select credit when making purchases.”
Are they BB/RB friendly?
Not sure if this has been addressed, but can I use my amex more than once if I use different address and email address on the rebate? Or does it get flagged if the same cc is used?
Note that VisaSavingEdge not providing 1% rebate at Staples any more. It’s been a while, but I didn’t realize it until today.
I bought these gift cards in May (same offer). I have yet to receive my $20 rebate, but it has not been 4 weeks yet (takes 4-6 weeks). I am thinking about buying them again, but concerned that they will deny it (since I just did this). Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks..
This is a new offer and you shouldn’t have any issues getting it again.
Picked up 4 of the $200 visa gift cards today at local Staples….. as I’ve done many times before. This time, however, I didn’t receive a rebate redemption form with my receipt. I had a feeling something was missing — and I even asked the young arrogant attendant if the cards were activated, if everything was ok…. (He seemed visibly annoyed to be selling the gift cards. I didn’t think to ask about a missing part of the receipt) Anybody else facing this new problem?
I checked the Staples easy rebates web site — and it appears I’m trying to get rebate offer # 15-25323. (Promotion: Get a $20 Visa (R) Prepaid Card on a Purchase of $300 or more of Visa Gift Cards (SKUs 763604, 763602, 374172, 763607, 374177, 866291) at Staples Stores ONLY
Rebate Reward: $20.00 Rebate Visa Prepaid Card Valid Dates: 06-21-2015 through 06-27-2015)
It may be though that the sku’s on the $200 visa gift cards (if I’m reading it right on the receipt & the cards) aren’t matching the promotion list (Mine are 076750…)
Even with the mail in rebate option, I’m supposed to have the original “rebate redemption form.” (which I didn’t get)I’ve already drained the visa cards to bluebird. (so they worked)
Anybody else encountered this new problem? Suggestions?
Will.. I ran into this a year ago. Not a “new” problem. It is a SKU issue, as you suggested. When you bought the cards, you NEED to verify the cards you are buying have the same SKU as listed in the ad for the promotion. They sell IDENTICAL cards with SKUs that are not on the promotion (I know, LAME, right?). When you buy the cards, you must get the rebate print-out at the time of purchase to qualify for the $20 rebate. If I was you, I would simply contact Staples Rewards (if you have a rewards account) or Staples.com (if you don’t) and explain what happened. They are fully aware that they sell some identical cards with SKUs that are not listed in the promotion. You might need to provide some documentation of what you bought, e.g. receipt or even the cardboard box (and UPC) that was on the GCs so they can verify what you bought. They should either send you the GC or post a $20 credit to your rewards account. Either way, I would “get mad” in a nice way. Staples is usually pretty good about giving credits, etc…
Many thanks for your comment, David. I appreciate knowing you too encountered a similar problem… a very “lame” problem indeed — especially as these products are non-refundable, once purchased.
I do have staples & staplesrewards accounts (and this time, the purchase was registered — I even have an email receipt) I’ll be calling later today. (and also alerting a local manager friend) I still have the (now drained) cards, as well as the packaging. (the packaging does have the incorrect sku’s in the extreme fine print on upper right of back side)
Say Shawn, next time you do a post trumpeting these cards for fellow hobbyist, perhaps you should include a warning/alert to readers to check the SKU’s….
Could I combine with this offer?
https://frequentmiler.com/2015/06/19/70-off-250-staples-amex-offer/
Yes if you have been targeted for that offer they should stack.
Discover allows you to redeem cash back into Staples gift cards – turn $20 cash back into $25 Staples gift card. Is there any way to then liquidate the Staples gift cards back into cash?
Not really other than to sell them at a discount.
[…] Before you get too excited, this offer seems to be highly targeted and appears to only be for business cards. If you do have the offer, there is plenty of opportunity including combining it with the upcoming Staples Visa gift card rebate. […]
How do they enforce the household limit?
After you submit easy rebate, you will get an email from staples after a week or so telling you that your submission has been invalidated. There is no workaround to the household limit. I did run into this when I bought 5 reams when the limit per household was 4. I got an email saying I will get the rebate for 4 but not for the fifth one. Since I had the original receipt, I returned the 5th one for a full refund. You cannot do this on a GCs since these are non-refundable.
