also had no success….where is this deal?
I think that I must be being a bit thick, but I am still being shown a 1:1 ratio if I try to convert.. has anyone had any success?
[…] bonus on transfers from Membership Rewards to British Airways Avios. Its not as great as it used to be, but its still better than a 1-1 […]
Real clever by AMEX and British Airways to “devalue” the points transfer ratio first and then after a while give a 50% bonus promotion thinking consumers have a real “short term memory”…
Nobody owes you anything. ALso, 1-1.2 is still better than 1:1, not sure what the problem is. Lastly, no guns are being held to any heads to force transfer of MRs…
@p00p: Why reply to ff-lover’s astute observations with the rhetoric about a “problem” and guns being held to heads? Your argument that 1-1.2 is still better than 1:1 is accurate of course. That does not take away from the equal accuracy of the cleverness (putting it kindly) of AMEX/BA.
I just transferred about two weeks ago without the bonus. Does anyone know if there’s a way to reverse the transfer or retroactively get the point bonus?
Nope. I tried that previously when I transferred MR points to Etihad just before they announced a transfer bonus and was told there is no way to make the bonus retroactive to earlier transfers, not matter how close you were. Real bummer.
Will this transfer extend the expiration date of Avios?
Yes this should extend your expiration date.
Shawn, I know I am still a n00b at this thing in many ways, but how the heck is this a 50%bonus? I cannot, for the life of me, figure that out.
A bOOb or a nOOb? 300 is 50% more than 200
No need to be rude, dude. This was why I am confused, and was asking so as to help me learn and understand. Shawn writes in part of the post here:
“With this bonus, 1 Membership Rewards point becomes 1.20 Avios.
250 Membership Rewards becomes 300 Avios.”
So, I didn’t see (fine print I missed) here that it used to be 200 Avios rather than 250 (1-1). Like I said, I was asking for clarification, not not to troll. I thought we were all here to help each other, but maybe some of us aren’t.
Carl: Normally you get 200 Avios for 250 MR points. Now you get 300. So 300/200 = 150%. The 50% is that 300 is 100 more than 200 or 50% more.
Thanks, Michael for the *helpful* reply. I was confused as I missed a fine point detail at the top. Thanks for the explanation.
