Wyndham killed this deal before it started!
Wyndham is running a crazy promo today only. Donate SPG points to charity and Wyndham will give you 4X Wyndham points in return! Plus, they’ll match your SPG status: SPG Gold -> Wyndham Platinum; SPG Platinum -> Wyndham Diamond. Full details of the promotion can be found here.
Stay at any Wyndham in the world for 3,750 SPG points per night
Wyndham has a unique program in which a room can be booked for 15,000 points per night at any Wyndham hotel in the world. This is a great deal for their relatively few high-end hotels, but not a great deal for their low end hotels. With SPG converting 1 to 4, that means you can stay at any Wyndham in the world for 3,750 SPG points per night.
Here’s how it works (copied from Wyndham):
- On Tuesday, October 11 from 12p.m. – 11:59p.m. EST, SPG members have the historic opportunity to donate their points to charity in exchange for 4x the points with Wyndham Rewards – plus a status match.
- To participate, members simply need to donate their entire SPG point balance to their preferred charity, and then send proof of their donation to Wyndham Rewards by sending screen shots to wyndhamrewards.fulfillment@wyn.com.
- Two screen shots are required – one showing confirmation of the point donation and a second showing the member’s account activity page with a zero balance.
- There is no cap on how many points members may donate or earn. Members may expect to receive the points and match within 10 days.
Trade-In Bonus Points
As a condition of eligibility for any Trade-In Bonus Points awards, Members’ Competitor Program account: 1) may not reflect any other transactions within the preceding 24 hour period; and 2) may have no more than 499 points remaining in their Competitor Program account upon completion of the transaction or transactions; and 3) all transactions must be completed within the Offer Period.
Mini Analysis
I will follow up with more analysis later this morning, but here are a few things to note:
- You must gift all of your SPG points to charity to qualify.
But, thanks to the Marriott SPG merger, you can easily move some of your SPG points to Marriott first so that you can pick exactly how many you want to convert to Wyndham points. As Raffles (in the comments) pointed out, Wyndham will see if you’ve moved points out of your SPG account, so you really do have to gift all of your SPG points to charity! The rules allow up to 499 points remaining. - According to the terms, the status match may be contingent upon the number of qualified nights or stays in your SPG account. I doubt they’ll really enforce that, but it’s possible.

Great business practices Wyndham, looks like this promo is going to have a negative effect when you pull the rug out on people.

I will be doing it with 24,500 points for around 100k Wynhdam points. 1 night at SPG or 6 nights at Wyndham Grand Orlando or the new Wyndham Grand Clearwater now being built!
Way back when they had that Koloa resort in Hawaii this would have been a crazy deal. Shelborne is Miami Beach would be an OK choice. Are there any other aspirational Wyndham properties left?
I went to spg in order to donate, and each of the charity partners only allows you to donate in set increments, meaning that if I have an odd points balance then it will be impossible to donate all my points. How do you suggest I deal with this situation?
The T&Cs say that as long as you have 499 points or less remaining in your account it’s OK. However, note that there can be no other activity in your account within the last 24 hours, and the donation has to be initiated and completed within the 12 hour period. How long it takes to complete is outside of your control….
The rules require you to send a full transaction summary which must include no other transactions in the last 24 hours. Moving points to Marriott would disqualify you.
Thank you. I’ve updated the post.
