Sears is currently offering 100% back in points on a number of Craftsman Bolt-On items found here.

This can be a great deal as long as you have near term plans for using those points.  This can also be a great way to double or triple portal rewards.  Please see: Roll gift cards into points for triple rewards.

And, note that this deal stacks with other Shop Your Way Rewards deals, and can lead to much higher rewards, like this:

Important Info

  • You must be logged into your SYW account to get this offer.
  • Caution 1: Items may sell out very quickly.  So, buying gift cards in order to then buy these items is a bit of a gamble.
  • Caution 2: Some people in the past have reported not getting the points that they expect from these deals. Make sure to save screen captures showing the expected points.  You can always email Sears support after the fact to request your missing points.
  • SYW points cannot be used to buy gift cards.  They can be used to buy products from Sears, Kmart, or Lands End.
  • All of my recent portal tests with Sears have been successful.  That is, buying gift cards, using gift cards, and using SYW points, after going through a portal, have all resulted in portal rewards despite terms stating otherwise.
  • For details about buying 100% back in points items, please see this post: Roll gift cards into points for triple rewards

[…] Sears offering 100% back in points (or more) on Craftsman Bolt-Ons […]

Nico

Quick question — how many can you order separately for 100% back? Is it one per person?

Todd

Even with snapshots and confirmation emails showing the points customer service has not been willing to add the points that were listed. They say the point total is an estimate only and not a guarantee. I’ve had this happen now on 7-10 orders of a wide variety of items and different deals. Have you had any luck with csr or have any tips?

Jake

Spent over 30 minutes on the phone with multiple CSRs who gave me the same response others have posted “points total is an estimate that can be effected by SYW points, coupons, or gift cards redeemed in the same purchase. In the end they agreed to cancel my order since I did store pick up and never went to Sears to take possession of the order and gave me back the SYW points I used during checkout as well as put the funds back on the gift card I used. I’ve had luck with these deals in the past, but this time it just didn’t seem to work out.

Greg, I just looked at the lab ( love the idea of the laboratory) for tests and although you mention “all your recent tests” show success, unless I’m missing something—there are not that many recent tests — nor do the tests cover very many different portals. I can only see tests of going through Splender and Discover portals and most of those are almost a year old. It looks like the only portal that is consistent was Discover. There is not much else to go on unless you are talking about other tests you have done and not reported on the lab….?

Nico

I’m sure Greg means his personal purchases. And I’m sure he purchases plenty to take his word for it.

JD

I get that…just would appreciate knowing specifically which things are working (or not) otherwise it is more of a gamble with so little current evidence at hand. Though I do understand the need not to put the specific portals out there, but that makes original comment “All of my recent portal tests with Sears have been successful.” less useful because YMMV can be huge portal to portal, etc.

Nico

Have you had any variance in using a portal with Sears? I know there was a brief period where people had some issues with not getting CB last year — if I remember correctly, it was only for a week or two that reports trickled in about some people not getting paid out on GC purchases — though, honestly, I never put much faith in those reports since there were plenty of successful reports after (and I’ve earned the CB/points/miles as well since then). Over the years (up to and including present), I’ve ordered through tons of different portals (including UA, AA, AK, SW, TCB, BeFrugal, and Discover, and now GivingAssistant at the very least — probably several more) and I’ve never not gotten CB on all three steps — buying a GC, using a GC, and using points. I think the reason there is “so little evidence at hand” is because there’s nothing new to report. It always works. And I just looked back through the notes in the lab. There are very few reports of failure — and most of those are obvious situations (like buying a Kmart gift card through the Sears website type of a thing). Believe me, if this stops working, it’ll get reported. Plenty of people are using it. I’m not exactly sure what you mean by “YMMV can be huge portal to portal”. That’s not the case. All of the airline portals basically are run by Cartera — they all work the same. I can’t think of a huge difference I’ve found in the way one portal behaves vs others. Of course, they all *say* that they don’t pay out on GC purchases, so there’s always the chance that they will actually institute software tomorrow that will enforce that and nobody will ever earn CB/miles again….but today is *probably* not that day.

JD

Nico–wow. Thanks for sharing this with me! I’ve left a LOT on the table, I guess. I used to be a BIG player buying Sears GC via portals….especially SW. How are you liquidating the Sears GC? Merch or are you still able to buy VGC and/or MGC at Sears with your Sears GC? Merching intimidates me…

Todd

Ive personally bought items with gift cards and with points on 3 different portals and gotten credit for all at Sears and Kmart. I have not bought gift cards though.

Mark O

How long does it normally take for the points to hit your account?

Todd

Points are 24 hours. This deal has been going on for weeks and I’ve bought about $2000 worth. On my account I was limited to one order to get points. Subsequent orders did not get points. On my wife’s account every separate order has gotten points. So you may want to buy them all in one order even though it may give you a few less points. Also, ship them. Do not pick up in store. They said three were in stock but they were not and I took 3 weeks and 4 shipments to the store before they got it right.
