Plastiq is out with a new promotion for new users to pay just a 2% fee on their first six rent / real estate payments when signing up via the link below. With yet another 3% cash back option now on the market (See: Holy smokes… Chase Freedom Unlimited 3X everywhere first year), you could easily beat the fee when paying the rent for the next few months if you’re new to Plastiq.

The Deal

  • Sign up for Plastiq via this link (new users only) and schedule 6 rent / real estate payments and your fee on those six payments will only be 2% (standard fees will apply after that)

Key Terms

  • Must be a new Plastiq user
  • Must schedule 6 payments
  • First payment must be submitted by 11:59pm Eastern on May 31, 2018

Quick Thoughts

The normal Plastiq fees are 2.5%, but through this promotion you can save half a percent on your first six scheduled rent / real estate payments if you’re a new users. This could be especially useful if you have to pay rent and you are able to take advantage of Chase’s new awesome 3x everywhere offer on the Freedom Unlimited for the first year (See: Holy smokes… Chase Freedom Unlimited 3X everywhere first year). If your rent is $1,000 / month, it’s an easy $10 a month in profit for the first six months.

Chase also increased the offers on all three Avios-earning cards, but earning the full 100K bonus requires a lot of spend. Being able to pay rent for a reduced fee might help (See: Three 100K Avios offers: Iberia, Aer Lingus, and British Airways).

As a reminder, there are some restrictions as to which card can be used for various types of payments. This promotion applies to rent / real estate payments. As a reminder, here are the guidelines as to which card(s) can be used for these payments:

  •  Mastercard = Any Rent/Real Estate payment
  •  Discover = Any Rent/Real Estate payment
  •  Visa = Personal Rent, Business Lease, HOA, but no Mortgage payments
  • Amex = Personal Rent, but no Business Lease, HOA, or Mortgage payments

Also keep in mind that the Ink Business Preferred could be an equally good choice for rent or business lease payments, but remember that Visa and Amex can not be used for mortgage payments. Don’t forget to schedule it as a recurring payment so that you can take advantage of the 2% fee over six payments.

In my experience, Plastiq payments charge about a week before they are delivered if mailed by check, though some payments are now delivered electronically the same day they are charged. I always recommend scheduling your first payment to arrive a week or two ahead of schedule to be sure that everything goes smoothly.

Finally, keep in mind that Urbanr recently began charging just a 1.5% fee for rent payments (See: Pay rent by credit card for 1.5% fee), though their platform requires some set-up from both sides and I haven’t personally used it (and they do not take American Express).

For Plastiq, does a “new” user require a new credit card number? Or can my partner create a new account, but use the same credit card as I’m using to pay rent?
