Frequent Miler's latest team challenge, Million Mile Madness, is happening now! Follow us as Greg, Nick, and Stephen compete to earn 1 Million SAS miles by flying 15 airlines before November 23rd. Who will complete the challenge with the most Speed, Affordability, and Style?
A couple of weeks ago, a bunch of Lufthansa first class awards became available for booking more than 14 days out, although none of that included routes to or from US cities.
It looks like that availability might’ve expanded to include some US cities but beware – some of it might be phantom availability.
Lucky at One Mile At A Time has found quite a bit of availability from US cities such as Washington D.C. to Frankfurt…
…and New York to Frankfurt.
These awards can be booked through Avianca LifeMiles. They’re a transfer partner of Citi ThankYou and SPG, plus they’re offering a 125% bonus on purchased miles at the moment.
If you don’t already have one, you’ll need to create an Avianca LifeMiles account in order to search for award flights (you don’t have to have a mileage balance with them). It’s easy to filter for Lufthansa-only flights – on the initial search page, click in the ‘Smart Search’ box and select Lufthansa.
Be careful when transferring points or purchasing miles – there are several comments on the OMAAT post stating that much of this is phantom availability. There are several other comments though stating that they’ve been able to book first class awards through LifeMiles, so there’s definitely some availability.
Booked MUC-FRA-ORD in F for three weeks from now. Thrilled
Awesome! Glad you found some non-phantom availability 🙂
Recycled news, post something original
There was no availability from US cities when we wrote the original post, whereas there is now – that was the purpose for writing this new post as it makes it much easier for readers to take advantage seeing as they won’t need to position to another country.
It’s been widely covered by other blogs, come up with something unique instead of stealing content from others.
Not all of our readers follow other blogs that would’ve posted about this, so we share it to ensure they have a heads up too. Judging by Mike’s comment below, it looks like this post has prompted him into booking a first class award ticket, so that makes it worthwhile.
Sharing this information isn’t stealing content from others and we always link to other blogs if we’ve found out about a deal from them. We share quite a lot of original content ourselves which other blogs then write about, an arrangement which we’re more than happy with.
The reason we share all this information in the first place is to help people travel and experience more, so refusing to share details about deals like this simply because someone else wrote about it first wouldn’t be doing our readers any favors.
For the record, please please continue posting high value deals/availability/etc as they show up. I used to read many blogs. Now, I’m busier and know most everything about this hobby so I’ve basically gotten down to just following this blog regularly, then using the weekly recap of posts around the web to stay up to date with some more interesting developments. It saves me a lot of time and I still know most everything that is important to me. Sure, I miss some valuable information, but for my extra time that’s a trade off I’m ok with. Thanks for the referral posts, they’re very helpful to many I’m sure.
Thanks – I’m glad you find them helpful 🙂
